At a recent LETRS training, it was highlighted that before we ask students to compose writing on the computer, they should have the ability to type 20 words per minute (wpm). Knowing our students will be asked to compose writing in 3-5th grade on the spring IAR assessment, consistent practice with keyboarding skills can make a huge difference in freeing up cognitive desk-space to focus on composing thoughtful ideas.  Preparing students for this task is a collective effort that builds from Kindergarten on.
