Complete Returning Student paperwork on the Skyward Portal. Click "Skyward Portal" below to login.
Please note, if you have received a letter stating you need to verify residency OR you have a change in address, you will need to drop off documents at the Harlem Administration Center (8605 N 2nd Street, Machesney Park, IL) or email documents to registration@harlem122.org. See "To Prove Residency" below for more information.
TO PROVE RESIDENCY
IF YOU HAVE RECEIVED A PROOF OF RESIDENCY LETTER OR YOU NEED TO CHANGE YOUR ADDRESS, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ENROLL YOUR STUDENT UNTIL THIS STEP IS COMPLETED
For the 2024-2025 school year, the following circumstances will require proof of residency documentation for returning students:
Families needing their address changed in Skyward
Families whose residency is not able to be electronically verified*
Families that need a Letters of Residence Affidavit
*If the District is unable to verify your address, you will receive communication from the District. The communication will provide details regarding the additional information you will need to provide for your child to start the 2024-25 school year.

Families can email proof of residency to registration@harlem122.org or drop them off at the Harlem Administration Center at 8605 N. 2nd Street, Machesney Park, IL
IN-PERSON ASSISTANCE
If you do not have computer access, or need assistance completing the online registration, please make an appointment at our office by clicking "Schedule Here" below.
Appointment times for returning students are about 30 minutes long.
If you have a change of address, or you received a Residency Proof letter, you will need to bring in 2 Residency Verification Documents. The list of acceptable Documents can be found below in "Residency Forms."
RESIDENCY FORMS
To be completed by a parent or guardian. A minimum of two (2) documents are required to establish residency, one (1) from each category. Both documents must state the name of the resident.
If a utility bill is used to satisfy Category A, the same bill cannot be used to satisfy Category B. No hand-written letters will
be accepted as Legal Rental Agreements or Affidavits. Board approved forms must be used.

What If I Am Unable To Provide a Required Residency Document?

Required if a parent or guardian seeking to enroll a child needs evidence of residency when a signed lease is unavailable. This includes an expired lease that has automatically become a month to month tenancy. Other documents will also be required to establish residency.
Top portion to be completed by parent or legal guardian and bottom portion to be completed by Landlord
Return this Affidavit along with proof of prior month payment and a document from Category B

Letters of Residence Affidavit 7:60-AP-2-E-2 English Español
Required if a parent or guardian seeking to enroll a child is living with a District Resident, such as friends or relatives, and they cannot provide sufficient proof of residency in their own name.
To be completed by the parent or legal guardian and the District Resident
District Resident is required to provide a minimum of two (2) verification documents required to establish residency
Parent or legal guardian will be required to provide a minimum of one (1) verification document from Category B (see Residency Documents for Address Changes below)
The School District reserves the right to evaluate the evidence presented, and merely presenting the items listed in this procedure does not guarantee admission

What If I Want To Transfer My Student To Another School In-District?

The Harlem School District provides parents with an opportunity for their children to attend an alternate school other than their neighborhood school under certain circumstances, providing there is sufficient space in another Harlem elementary school.
Transfers will only be considered if the child being transferred has a sibling currently attending the requested/receiving school.
Transfers considered will only be approved IF:
Building and class enrollments can be maintained at an acceptable level.
Applicants follow proper procedures, student registration is complete, and the request is made by May 31st, or by the child’s first attendance day, if the child is transferring into the district during the school year.
Parents provide all transportation.
The conduct, attendance and progress of student must be acceptable at receiving school or transfer may be revoked at any time.
