A SUCCESSFUL VIRTUAL EXPERIENCE

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS

  • Take care of yourself. If you are experiencing feelings of stress or anxiety, please reach out to your counselors, teachers, or principal. The district understands the stressors associated with all aspects of the pandemic, new ways of learning, and everything in between. We urge you to please reach out to us as we have trained professionals who can and will help.

  • Watch, study, and learn the Canvas training modules.

  • Ensure you know and can access your usernames and passwords for instructional resources.Identify and keep a dedicated workspace that enhances your personal environmental needs for learning

  • Maintain a daily schedule that mimics what you did in a face to face environment (wake up; shower; eat breakfast; go to workspace and begin)

  • Check your Canvas platform daily for information on classes, assignments, and resources

  • Review your school’s daily schedule and participate in all synchronous (live) instructional times provided by your specific teachers

  • Submit all coursework by the due dates established by your teachers

  • Do your best to master all learning competencies and expect your assessment (grading) to reflect your work and understanding of the material

PARENT EXPECTATIONS

  • Take care of yourself also! We repeat this as out top expectations as we know being an adult does not alleviate the anxiety and fear many may have with the unknown. We are going to do everything we can to provide lessons in a manner that your job may be to manage a student at home but not be expected to teach them. Of course, this cannot be 100% of the time, but our staff is being trained in these new eLearning best practices, and we ask for your partnership and patience.

  • Read and become familiar with all aspects of this plan as well as your child’s individual school schedule and plan.

  • Ensure your family has received, set up, and have access to the internet from the district provided hotpots prior to the first day of classes

  • Discuss your child’s workspace selection and confirm it will be a healthy environment to learn (away from video game access or other distractions).

  • Ensure your children know their usernames and passwords for instructional resources

  • It is CRITICAL that you assist your child in establishing and maintaining a routine similar to face to face learning. The fully online learning environment is that of a full day of learning. While this does not mean being online for 7 hours, it does mean considerable self-discipline and organization. Parental support and guidance is paramount.

  • All schools will have live (synchronous) instructional times. Support participation in these live instructional times.

  • Communicate with your child and teacher as often as possible.

  • Monitor the time spent by your child in online and offline learning and make adjustments as needed.

  • Support emotional balance and physical well-being by providing and encouraging time for physical activity outside of the physical education classroom assignments.
