Depending on availability, high school teachers will either have the Swivl or the webcam and tripod to use for their concurrent/hybrid classroom.
Swivl is a robotic mount for an Ipad or smartphone designed to connect with remote students during concurrent/hybrid learning. It will track the teachers movements throughout the classroom and can pick up the teacher's voice as well as in-person student voices with the use of markers. This means that teachers will not have to be near their laptop webcams when they need to be seen by remote learning students.
Learn more about the Swivl by subscribing to their youtube channel or check out their website.
Training modules will be added to each school’s Google Classroom regarding equipment set up and instructional technology use for engaging in-person and online learners. In addition there will be appointments available for 1:1 in-person or virtual training with a Digital Learning Specialist.
External 1080p HD webcams are being provided to allow teachers to “untether” from their laptops and move about as needed or to provide detailed viewing of instructional materials that are not possible using the Macbook’s built-in camera. Using Zoom, teachers can toggle between the external webcam, the built-in camera, or a 3rd camera (i.e., a document camera, if so-equipped).
Telescoping tripods will also be provided for the webcams. These can be placed on a desk in a compact configuration or on the floor with the legs partially or fully extended.
A list of best practices for audio and student collaboration between in-person and virtual learners has been created to provide suggestions and clarification in regards to audio, specifically when using a webcam.
