What is it? The Missouri Assessment Program assesses students' progress toward the Missouri Learning Standards, which are Missouri's content standards. End-of-Course assessments (EOC's) are taken when a student has received instruction on the Missouri Learning Standards for an assessment, regardless of grade level. The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) requires districts to administer Algebra I, English II, Biology, and Government prior to graduation. Other EOC's Missouri school districts can have the option of administering are English I, Geometry, Algebra II, American History and Physical Science.
Most EOCs are multiple choice questions; however, English II and Algebra I, have a second session that will require a student to complete a performance event, which is a more demanding task requiring students to work through problems, experiments, arguments, or extended pieces of writing.
Student's course schedule automatically determines any EOCs a student will be administered. Hallsville High School administers EOCs both in the fall and spring.
A student begins preparation for an EOC assessment on the first day the student is in attendance in an EOC course to assessment day. Besides being actively engaged in class daily and committing to doing all assignments for a class to the student's potential, here are some helpful tips to help insure a student is doing what can be done to be prepared for an EOC:
Time Management
Good Study Habits
Set Attainable Goals
Concentration
Take Good Notes/Review Notes
Completion of Assignments
Organizational Skills
Motivation
Commitment
