Summer Writing Ideas
This year we wrote narratives, memoirs, argument essays, literary essays, songs, poems and informational essays. Students know how to plan, structure and draft all of these genres. Students could work on any of those options.
Other ideas:
- Keep a journal with a parent. Take turns writing letters to one another.
- Write to a pen pal (cousin from another state, friend from camp, neighbor who moved away).
- Keep a writing journal and write each day.
- Work on a bigger writing project – like a book, research piece or even an anthology of poems.
- Take some blank paper and fun pens on a long car trip, to the beach, on vacation or wherever summer takes you and just write.
Try something new!
- Write a play and have friends help you perform it.
- Create a new recipe.
- Write a comic book story.
- Write an autobiography.
- Research your family’s history and write about it.
Have fun. Be creative.
