Birthdays are a huge part of a child's life. We will celebrate your child's birthday in homeroom. Each child will receive a Central School pennant signed by his or her class.
Schools have a responsibility to help students establish and maintain lifelong, healthy eating habits and maintain a safe and equitable environment for all students. Due to the increasing amount of food sensitivities and allergies in our environment, we have decided to eliminate edible birthday treats in Haddonfield Public Schools. We will no longer permit cakes, cookies, cupcakes or any other edible treats in the school for birthday celebrations.
In making this decision, we engaged with stakeholders through meetings and discussions with parents, school nurses, faculty, administrators, the district’s Wellness Committee, and the Community Partners for Equitable Education group. The overarching theme in these discussions was providing an inclusive environment to all members of our school communities. This is also emphasized throughout BOE Policy 5331: Management of Life-Threatening Allergies in Schools (M) & Regulation, which can be viewed here.
A unique way to celebrate student birthdays at each grade level is listed below.
