How to be a Bucket Filler:
A "Bucket Filler" is a person who brings happiness to everyone around them through daily words and actions of kindness and love. In this classroom, students will learn about the importance of showing others kindness and behaving positively. The children will see how easy and rewarding it can be to express kindness, appreciation, and love on a daily basis. Moreover, the students will see the negative effects that “bucket dipping,” such as teasing or hurting classmates, has on others as well as themselves. This practice makes our classroom a good place for learning and helps the children to develop socially by identifying and expressing feelings, sharing, making friends, and building relationships and character.
The Bucket-Filling program has several goals:
1. To teach children how to reach out and express love, respect, and appreciation to others
2. To help children become other-centered rather than self-centered
3. To help children express their feelings (good and bad) in a healthy manner
4. To help children understand where feelings originate and how to protect their feelings from being hurt
5. To establish a framework for more constructive words
and actions and less bullying
6. To create more positive home and school environments
