About Me

Dear Students, Parents, and Families of Tatem Elementary School,

My name is Mrs. Kelliann Haney and I am very proud to be a first grade teacher at Tatem School. I love our Tatem community! I hope this letter helps you learn more about myself, as an educator and individual. I look forward to meeting you and growing together this upcoming school year.

My journey as an educator began at The College of New Jersey, where I studied Elementary Education, English, and Science. I loved teaching kindergarten, second, and third grade at Charles Street School in Palmyra, New Jersey. Yet, my most cherished teaching thus far has been teaching first grade at Tatem School. In order to further develop my skills as a reading teacher, I earned my reading specialist masters degree with certificate at The College of New Jersey in the spring of 2020.

It has been my experience that successful teaching and learning begin when I help each child to feel comfortable in the classroom. When children feel safe, accepted, and listened to, they are more willing to take risks as we join together to form a learning community. Because of my strong belief in designing lessons and tasks that actively involve my students, I increase my students’ motivation to learn. Through establishing a classroom environment that is warm, organized, and expressing positive, yet high expectations, I stretch their thinking into higher levels and help them maximize their capabilities in meaningful ways. Ultimately, I help each child find success.

I firmly believe that children feel cared for and are most successful when they know that their teachers and parents are working together. I am looking forward to communicating with and involving the families of my students. Please do not hesitate to call, e-mail (khaney@haddonfield.k12.nj.us), or write me.

Outside of the classroom, I enjoy reading, exercising, and doing crafty activities. This summer, I spent time relaxing on the beach in Cape May and Long Beach Island. I am so happy to be a member of the Tatem family and I know this year will be an exciting one for all of us!

Kindest regards,

Kelliann Haney
