ECDC Protocols Checklist 2022-2023
Visits to the Nurse:
If a student injures another student, both students must be sent to the nurse once the incident occurs.
If a staff member is injured by a student or work related injury, it must be reported to the nurse the day that the incident occurs. In addition, an incident report must be completed by the staff member and given to the nurse the day of the incident.
When a student enters the class/school with an injury- it must be reported to the nurse immediately. The nurse will contact the family.
If a student injury occurs in school and is serious in nature, such as a bite, scratch or injury to the face, please follow up with the nurse ASAP and then contact the family to discuss details about what happened regarding the student. Families must be notified the day of the incident.
Need for gloves:
Whenever contact with student is necessary:
Toileting
Handling any students’ bodily fluids (nose bleed, mucus, vomit, excessive tears, etc)
Family communication:
Keep parents/guardians informed of good news or academic and/or behavioral concerns via email, phone call, or schedule a meeting.
Please do not share information about academics or behavior during morning line-up or at dismissal in a public forum. Invite parents to a meeting to discuss an issue.
Class Dojo is not to be used for formal communication with families. District officials do not have access to your personal Class Dojo account. Although it is a district-approved app, it should not diminish instructional time.
D C P & P:
District Policy 8462 is found on the district website
Report to D C P & P immediately when you suspect a child is missing or abused or if a student makes a statement about alleged abuse.
We are not to investigate the situation, we are mandatory reporters.
D C P & P will investigate and determine any allegations.
All staff must report your call to the Main Office or administrators prior to calling or immediately after your call to D C P & P.
Risk Screening:
Notify administration or the Main Office immediately if a student states or implies an intent or desire to harm themselves or others. This cannot wait until the end of the day or after school.
Do not allow the student out of your sight until an administrator or social worker picks up the student.
Parent/Guardian Communication (April 13, 2023)
"(...), all communication with parents/guardians must take place with certified staff members (i.e.: teacher, OT, PT, Child Study Team member, School Nurse, etc.).
In addition, please add your meetings/conversations/emails on Genesis under "conferences."
Paraeducators and district substitute teachers must convey messages about students via certified staff members (i.e.: teacher, OT, PT, Child Study Team member, etc.).
For example, if you have additional support staff in your classroom such as a nurse, substitute teachers or visitor for assessing/testing a student, information about students should not be shared unless the parent/guardian is present. Only information about the student can be released to the parent/guardian.
If an adult is picking up a student and they are listed on Genesis as an "Emergency Contact" which grants permission to pick up the student, once again, information about the student cannot be discussed unless the parent/guardian is also in attendance. If the parent/guardian is present, the conversation can only occur with a certified staff member (i.e.: teacher, OT, PT, Child Study Team member, etc.).
Furthermore, this training has been provided via Safe Schools/Vector Solutions."
ECDC Dismissal Procedures
IF you leave a student, please make sure to complete the Late Dismissal form indicating the staff member that you left your student with at that time.
ECDC Substitute Lesson Plans
In the event that you are absent for the day, the expectation is that you will email substitute lesson plans to the office staff: Mayra, Gabby, and myself.
The lesson plans need to be sent prior to 8:45 am.
The office will print out the lesson plans and give them to the substitute teacher.

Food Allergy Reminders for Nellie K. Parker School
Dear NKP family,
As we approach the season of classroom celebrations, I wanted to take a moment to remind everyone of our school's policies regarding food allergies and parties. The safety and well-being of all our students is our top priority, and we appreciate your cooperation in adhering to these guidelines. We strongly encourage non-food celebrations, recommending alternatives such as goody bags, pencils, books, and other fun items that can be safely distributed to all students. These options not only ensure the safety of our students with food allergies but also promote a more inclusive environment for everyone.
For any planned celebration or party, we require parents to inform the teacher with a minimum of 48 hr. notice. This allows us sufficient time to communicate with parents of students with food allergies. If food is to be included in the celebration, please note that all such events must be held in the cafeteria during the class's designated lunch period. It's important to remember that students with food allergies are only permitted to consume items brought from home, unless both the teacher and school nurse have been informed in writing. By following these policies, we can create a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for all our students during these special occasions.
Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
Best regards,
Dr. Anibal A. Galiana

Moving forward, all requests for technology support are via the Incident IQ Ticket system on the main Hackensack webpage. Click: https://hackensackschools.incidentiq.com/
The office will no longer take phone calls and requests for technical assistance.
If for any reason you do not receive a response within 24 hours, please resubmit your ticket as a new ticket.
Also, if a student needs to go to see the nurse or leaves early, the paraeducator would take the student to the nurse or lobby area to leave early.
Certified staff members are classroom teachers, substitute teachers, certified speech therapists, physical therapists, BCBAs, etc.
If paraeducators have their substitute license, but are working at ECDC as a paraeducator, the paraeducator is not considered a certified staff member since they are not working under their substitute certification.
