Thinking about retirement? Not Daniel Donovan, one of the newest full-time cadets in HACC’s 122nd Municipal Police Academy. Donovan, 64, is the oldest cadet in the academy’s history. There are 61 full-time cadets in the class, which is the largest to date.
In a story published by PennLive, Donovan said, “I learned early in my life the answer is always ‘no,’ unless you put in for it and try to get where you want to go.”
When approached by a member of the media, please follow College protocol and refer them to newsroom@hacc.edu in the Office of College Advancement (OCA), which handles media inquiries f about HACC and the HACC Foundation.
OCA monitors newsroom@hacc.edu and is versed in how to respond to the media in the best interests of the College. Media outlets include (but are not limited to) newspapers; TV stations; radio stations; blogs; magazines; media representatives from local, county and state agencies; and HACC student newspapers.
The College’s policy for responding to requests from the media can be found in SGP 131 News Releases, Media Advisory and Media Contacts Handbook and SGP 131 News Releases, Media Advisory and Media Contacts Policy under the “Shared Governance” in the “Organizations” portal on myHACC.
The president and his designee, the vice president of college advancement, are the primary spokespeople for the College and HACC Foundation on policy issues. The integrated marketing communications coordinators are also authorized to serve as secondary spokespersons. No one else is authorized to communicate with the media about HACC and HACC Foundation business without written authorization from one of these individuals. This process ensures that the flow of information from the College is coordinated and controlled, and it protects the College both in good times and in times of crisis.
That is not to say that no one can ever talk to the media. On inquiries not involving official College matters, College personnel may speak to the media in their areas of expertise without referral to the OCA and may be identified as a College employee with the provison that they clearly indicate they are not speaking on behalf of the College and the HACC Foundation.
In addition, College personnel are entitled to exercise their First Amendment rights and speak freely with any media on any matters provided they clearly identify that they are speaking as individuals and not as representatives of the College or HACC Foundation.

Sprout Social rated HACC’s 2022 social media engagement against the industry average of higher education institutions.
How did we do?
Our collegewide Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts scored higher in three out of four categories:
Impressions - The number of times our content showed up in our audience’s newsfeeds.
Publishing - The amount of content we posted on our accounts.
Engagements - The amount that other accounts interacted with our content (comments, likes and shares).
#HACCyeah
The only category we ranked slightly less than other institutions was in “new followers” (the amount of people who liked our accounts).
How can you help? We’re so glad you asked.

A HACC Foundation scholarship can mean the difference between a HACC student successfully completing their educational journey or dropping out due to financial hardship. Scholarship recipients say as much when accepting their awards.
Now, however, the HACC Foundation has data to back up these claims. An analysis by HACC’s Institutional Reporting Department shows that students who receive a HACC Foundation scholarship or other assistance are more likely to graduate during or after their award year than non-scholarship students.
For award years 2017-18 and 2018-19, 70% of students receiving HACC Foundation scholarships or other assistance subsequently graduated. This compares to a much lower completion rate for all students attending HACC during those same academic years.
“There are many reasons why our students succeed, but this information proves that scholarship assistance is essential,” said Linnie S. Carter, Ph.D., APR, vice president of college advancement at HACC and executive director of the HACC Foundation.
“If we were to remove the HACC Foundation from the equation, it would have an adverse effect on student success at HACC,” Carter said. “While we do not have the resources to do an individual analysis for each of our scholarship funds, we are pleased with the impact illustrated by this comprehensive analysis.”
