NOTE: To qualify for these courses, you must live in the Goodwill Big-Bend region, must be legal to work in the US. Some courses are onsite and some are online, but even online courses require occasional onsite visits at one of our Career Centers.

Eligibility Criteria

Our Healthcare courses are available at no cost to students. You must meet the following criteria to be eligible:

• Legal to work in the United States 

• Live in the Goodwill Big-Bend Region

• Ready and willing to work in the Healthcare Industry

Medical Terminology Course

10-Hour Online Course- This course is a prerequisite for our CNA class and focuses on the surface anatomy of the body for the healthcare environment. The curriculum covers basic medical terms used in hospitals and healthcare facilities. Students earn a Human Body Fundamentals specialization certificate at the end of the course.

The course includes:

• Respiratory & Cardiovascular

Basic Life Support (BLS) Class

NOTE: You must be legal to work in the United States and able to attend the class in Panama City or Tallahassee, Florida. 

4-Hour Onsite Class- Become certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Red Cross with this onsite class

The class includes:

• American Red Cross First Aid

• American Red Cross CPR for Healthcare Settings

• American Red Cross Healthcare Team Dynamics

• American Red Cross AED for Healthcare Settings

• American Red Cross BVM for Healthcare Settings

• American Red Cross Pediatric BLS

Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) Class

NOTE: You must be legal to work in the United States and able to attend classes in Panama City or Tallahassee, Florida. 

8-Week Onsite Class- Our Certified Nurse Assistant class prepares you for a career in the Healthcare Industry. The class meets onsite Mon, Wed, and Fri for eight weeks from 8:30-12:30 PM CST (9:30-1:30 PM EST). The curriculum for the class includes:

• Professionalism & Principles of Care

• Human Body, Mind, Needs, & Identity

• Vitals, Infection, Safety, Emergencies

• Resident Mobility & Youth Care

• Respiratory, Autoimmune, & Acute Care

• 22 Hands-On Clinical Skills

During the 8-week class, you will receive professional training from a certified instructor and extensively practice the 22 Clinical Skills you must master to become a Certified Nurse Assistant.

By the end of the course you will:

• Earn a Coursera Medical Terminology Specialization Certificate

• Earn an American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate

• Earn a Florida CNA Certification

• Interview with local employers from a variety of healthcare facilities

Graduates are qualified for the following entry-level positions in the Healthcare Industry:

• Companion or Patient Sitter

• Home Health Aide

• Caregiver

• Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA)

• Patient Care Assistant (PCA)
