Welcome
Dear friends,
We hope that everyone had a restful and relaxing Spring Break! We know that it is a very busy time for everyone so we've kept this newsletter short and sweet.
Our Learning Tech Roundup is a blended newsletter for students and faculty, that the Learning Design and Development group publishes monthly. Below, you will find a section for students and one for faculty, each section folds open to reveal timely information.
As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if there is anything we can do to help (contact information may be found at the bottom of this page)!

Faculty
Rigor and Compassion: a Guilford faculty panel discussion
CPPSET hosted a terrific discussion on Mar 15, thanks to the generosity of Will Pizio and Mark Dixon, who spoke of taking risks in their courses and how they are balancing issues of "rigor" and compassion.
Mark Dixon's speaking notes: "a subject expert who sucks at his job" (title by Mark, gently disagreed with by Garrett)
Related - Go2Knowledge has a one hour webinar titled "Managing Burnout & Compassion Fatigue: How To Support Educators’ Health & Wellness"
It will be delivered live on Friday, April 22 ~ 1:00-2:00pm (Eastern) and the recording will be available after that.
Login to your Guilford College Go2Knowledge dashboard using your campus network credentials
Scroll down to "Search Digital Library" and search for the title (above)
Select the webinar to go to a more detailed page, where you may select "Register / Add to Dashboard Progress" (right-hand side)
Zoom
New - Zoom Guide for Annotation Tools, to annotate the content you use in Share Screen

HyFlex Teaching Kits
These kits are available for faculty checkout from Hege Library & Learning Technologies. There are three options, to serve different teaching needs; but each includes a great way to capture in-person classroom video and audio for your remote learners, in Zoom:
Logitech Kit: the easiest to use, best for standard teaching arrangements of blended lecture and discussion
Owl Kit: best for smaller classes that use a circle(ish) configuration, captures 360° video [Meeting Owl demo video]
OBSBOT Kit: this has a tiny auto-tracking camera, for classes that are more lecturer focused [OBSBOT demo video]
I am happy to help you decide which kit is best for your needs and/or to train you on optimal classroom set-up; I have also created this step-by-step set-up documentation, with images. Contact: Garrett at gcollins1@guilford.edu

No one shared or requested anything cool since our last Tech Roundup; but if they had, highlights would appear here.

The Hege Emerging Scholars Award website always has the most up-to-date information (and the forms needed to apply)
Women's History Month
Women's History Month began in 1978 as "Women's History Day" in Sonoma County, California. In 1980, it was recognized as a national week and, in 1987, it became a national month. In the last thirty years, it has spread internationally, with nations like Australia, Canada, Hungary, and Ukraine supporting official celebrations.
The National Women's History Alliance creates a theme to help celebrate Women's History Month. The themes from 2020 and 2021 were both related to voting, in part because the Covid-19 pandemic prevented large gatherings. In 2022, the theme is "Women providing healing, promoting hope", once again reflecting the influence of Covid-19 and recognizing the shift from pandemic to endemic. Please check their website for more information.
