Collaboratory

The Collaboratory is located on the second floor of the Hege Academic Commons (232-234). It has two learning spaces which can be used individually or combined to support faculty and students across the curriculum and across disciplines while fostering creative approaches to pedagogy and scholarship. All furnishings and technology support flexibility in teaching and learning.

Faculty may use our Collaboratory application form - summer and fall 2022 to reserve this space.

Please contact Jon Howle (jhowle@guilford.edu) or William Kelly (wkelly@guilford.edu) with questions.

Learning Glass Studio

The Learning Glass Studio is located on the second floor of the Hege Academic Commons, within the Collaboratory (Hege 232). In the Learning Glass Studio, instructors have the ability to record lectures with the touch of one button. The LED lightboard allows the instructor to write normally while the Learning Glass app automatically flips it for learners.

If you are interested in utilizing this space, please contact Jon Howle (jhowle@guilford.edu).

Betty Place Ideation Lab

Located in the Commons Ground, the Betty Place Ideation Lab is a flexible space that encourages learning, creativity, and collaboration. Students have access to digital media editing software and are able to experiment with the creation of 3D patterns using design software. Additionally, we will be adding a 3D printer in the near future.

If you would like to use this space, please contact Jon Howle (jhowle@guilford.edu) or William Kelly (wkelly@guilford.edu).

STARS Desk

Located on the second floor of the Hege Academic Commons, the STARS Desk provides students with individualized support on campus learning technologies such as Canvas, Google Apps, Microsoft Office, and Zoom. The STARS Desk is staffed by fellow students both in-person and virtually at select times (including some evening hours) every Monday through Thursday.

When we return to campus, the desk's hours and staff will be posted.

Other resources include library guides, Hoonuit, and the Help Desk (which is also available by email: webhelpdesk@guilford.edu).

Duke Hall Leak Room

The renovated Leak Room, which will open in the late Spring 2024, will feature high quality sound and imaging, with teleconferencing and lecture capture capabilities. Remote learners will be able to engage with in-class learners. The tiered seats will swivel and be height adjustable in six zones, each with its own display panel supporting group activities.

A wireless environment will further support mobility and flexibility. Additionally, a laptop kiosk dispensing both PC and Mac laptops will be available on demand for those who do not have their own devices. Our vision for the Leak Room is as a technology-enriched, active and collaborative learning environment, transformed from the current limitations of its static design to the freedom of new flexible universal design features.

The Duke Hall Leak Room will be able to accommodate 56 students and 2 instructors.

If you would like more information about reserving this space, please contact Jon Howle (jhowle@guilford.edu).
