What we do
The Learning Design and Development Team’s mission is to cultivate a culture of innovation and curiosity through meaningful engagements in both physical and virtual environments. To that end, we encourage and support the application of technology, the creation of novel teaching and learning environments, and the use of open educational resources (OERs). We work with instructors across campus to design and develop courses, assignments, assessments, and more, all with a focus on information literacy and digital competency.
We manage learning spaces, such as the Collaboratory, the Learning Glass Studio, the Leak Room, and the Ideation Lab, and work with instructors in those spaces to further our mission. We also manage the STARS Desk and the Folio Studio where student mentors help their peers develop search skills, information evaluation skills, and tech skills..
COLLABORATORY
The Teaching, Learning, and Research Collaboratory is our flagship Tier III learning space. It supports innovations in active and collaborative learning design for all modern modalities. As with all Tier III classrooms, the Collaboratory's operating instructions are freely available and continuously updated. This document is also accessible via the QR code on a sticker near the Extron control panel in both halves of the room.
Initiatives
Our upcoming workshops will focus on information literacy, artificial intelligence, digital competencies, digital scholarship, and much more!
Watch for announcements throughout the Fall 2024 semester.
STARS Desk
Located on the second floor of Hege Academic Commons, the STARS Desk provides students with individualized peer support on campus learning technologies such as Canvas, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and Zoom. The STARS Desk is staffed by fellow students Monday through Friday.
Other resources include library guides, Hoonuit, and the ITS Help Desk.
FOLIO Studio
The Folio Studio is located on the Commons Ground level of Hege Academic Commons. It is a peer-run and peer-supervised space where students can work collaboratively with mentors to create and publish effective ePortfolios. Please check the Folio Studio website for more information and hours of operation.
Note: The Commons Ground is closed for renovations during the Fall 2024 semester. The Folio Studio will re-locate to the third alcove on the second floor of Hege Academic Commons until further notice.
