The Symphonic Band is one of the three core components of our wind ensemble, alongside the percussion and concert band classes. This advanced honors course is designed for skilled wind and brass instrumentalists. Students must demonstrate a high level of proficiency to the director and are admitted based on the director's recommendation. Participation in rehearsals and performances—both during and outside of regular school hours, including on non-school days—is a key requirement of the course. Additionally, students are expected to participate in the Marching Band. The band operates during the winter and spring, performing at seasonal concerts, Southern California music festivals, various events, and Valhalla High School's Graduation Ceremony. The Wind Ensemble plays a diverse range of music, including contemporary and traditional wind band compositions, orchestral transcriptions, marches, and popular music. This honors course satisfies UC/CSU (F) and district graduation requirements for visual and performing arts.
