The Concert Band is one of the three core classes that make up our wind ensemble, which also includes the percussion and symphonic band classes. This course is designed for wind and brass instrumentalists who demonstrate a beginning to intermediate levels of proficiency. Students are expected to participate in rehearsals and performances before, during, and after the regular school day, as well as on non-school days, all of which are integral to the course curriculum. Students are also required to participate in the Marching Band. The Concert Band operates during the winter and spring, performing in seasonal concerts on and off campus, as well as at Southern California music festivals, events, and Valhalla High School’s Graduation Ceremony. The ensemble performs a diverse range of music, including contemporary and traditional wind band literature, orchestral transcriptions, marches, and popular music. After a year in Concert Band, students may have the opportunity to move up to the Symphonic Band at the director’s discretion. This course satisfies district graduation requirements for visual and performing arts.
