The scroll saw balances between the arts and crafts world and the woodworking world? Have a small, intricate pattern to cut? the scroll saw is for you! Scroll saw artists can make a full career out of cutting lettering and logo designs for custom signage etc.
The Scroll is used principally for cutting out enclosures and curves. The speed of the scroll saw blade is adjustable.
The saw blade must be the proper size for the job.
The teeth of the saw blade must point down.
Select the proper saw speed. If in doubt, ask the instructor.
Before turning on the power:
The hold-down foot must be in contact with the work.
ALWAYS TURN THE MACHINE THROUGH AT LEAST ONE REVOLUTION BY HAND. MAKE SURE ALL PARTS ARE CLEAR.
Only the operator is to turn the power switch ON and OFF.
Keep fingers away from the saw blade. Serious injury can occur if fingers come into contact with the blade.
Keep hands out of the path of the saw blade. Injuries can occur very quickly. Never look away from the blade when operating the saw.
Avoid cutting cylindrical stock.
All material must be supported firmly against the downward thrust of the saw.
Report all mechanical defects to the instructor.
If the blade breaks, turn off the power.
Decrease the speed when cutting curves.
