One definition of research is "diligent & systemic inquiry or investigation into a subject in order to discover or revise facts, theories, applications, etc."
In other words:
Research is a process of inquiry or investigation.
When researching, you discover or revise findings to create new meaning.
Searching can be simply defined as "trying to find something."
Searching can be used to find basic information. For instance, I am sure you may "Google" for answers to simple questions such as "When is Veteran's Day this year?"
Within the context of research:
Searching and re-searching is necessary to gather information.
Searching is an important part of the research process.
But, not all searching is really research.
