After a search, you can see how many results you get. Compare this sample of 785,852 ProQuest results for "bias" with Google's results: 652,000,000.
When browsing through the list of search results, skim source types, titles, and publication info.
For publication date, move the sliders to change the range.
After adjusting date sliders, click the Update button.
The number of search results should reduce.
You should also notice the date range that you selected under "Applied filters." Click on the [x] to remove the filter.
What's the difference between Source Type and Document Type?
"Source" is the type of publication and "document" is the type of piece within the publication.
For instance, a magazine is a source type. Within a magazine, there could be document types such as articles, editorials, or interviews.
The Source Type and Document Type filters function similarly (see below).
You can filter to just one type if you click on one of the hyperlinked labels.
Alternatively, click on the More > link to see a full list of all available types.
Check boxes to include or exclude types and then click Apply.
