What is credit recovery in the Learning Center? How is this different from Grade Repair?

Answer: Our district uses the Acellus platform for online credit recovery. When a student earns a D or an F in an A-G class or a graduation requirement, students can make it up in Acellus as an option. The student will be assigned 1 period of credit recovery in Learning Center usually in senior year or summer school. The student will complete the class from scratch in Acellus.

Sometimes, the teacher who issued the D or F will nominate a student for Grade Repair. This means the teacher has determined the student was very close to a passing grade and therefore has identified specific lessons in Acellus to complete. In other words, the student will complete a portion of the full Acellus class only and not the whole class in Acellus. The teacher can assign as little as a few dozen steps in Acellus for the Grade Repair. When the student completes the Grade Repair tasks in Acellus, the student’s D or F will be permanently deleted from their transcript and replaced with the passing grade resulting from the Acellus Grade Repair work. Not all teachers participate in the Grade Repair program.

Sometimes, teachers feel the student would benefit from completing the whole class from scratch and therefore won’t issue a Grade Repair opportunity. No-one but the teacher of record can issue a Grade Repair. Counselors, administrators and parents cannot request or issue a Grade Repair. This is a deal between the teacher of record and the student.
