Hi Matador Students and Families!

I’m excited to begin my 3rd year at Mount Miguel High School. Prior to Mount Miguel, I spent 2 years as an elementary school counselor and 5 years in the Sweetwater Union High School District as a coach and substitute teacher and counselor. I’ve enjoyed bonding, supporting and being a cheerleader for students and families here at the Mount! And I’m incredibly grateful to be a part of your student’s village. Everyday, my goal is to make every student I encounter feel seen, heard, encouraged and aware of their potential and of all the great opportunities available to them. Whether it be to discuss academic related topics, planning for their college/career goals or checking in to make sure students’ social/mental health needs are being met or even just to say hi, students are always welcome to come and see me. Although I grew up in National City, I’m proud to currently call Lemon Grove and Mount Miguel my home! During my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and 13-year-old “puppy,” working out, traveling and getting my hands dirty in the garden.

Hello my Mighty Matadors,

The 2023-2024 school year is my 5th year in this role at Mount Miguel High School. What a blessing and privilege it is to be a school counselor at The Mount. I am native to San Diego and LOVE our city. I graduated from college debt-free thanks to financial aid. I am a proud first-generation college graduate. I believe that all students are worthy of love, equitable resources, options and opportunities, and respect. My strengths in supporting students include: being bilingual in Spanish, promoting access and equity for all students, goal setting and organization, academic planning, college exploration, financial aid, and teaching students how to stay calm and manage and process tough emotions. I always encourage students to prioritize their mental health. I value diversity and civic engagement. I believe in the power of self-agency. Some of my current hobbies include gardening, watching football and soccer, DIY projects, stretching and foam rolling, and keeping up with politics and local elections.

Hello and Kamusta Matadors!

I am excited to be a part of the Matador Family! I am originally from a small town in the Philippines and I am also the first in my family to graduate from college. With the help of caring educators and programs like TRiO Upward Bound, I was able to identify my strengths, find direction, and accomplish goals I originally thought were not possible for someone like me. Through my own experiences, I find myself inspired by the power of education and how it can positively impact lives. I am fueled by my students' growth and my goal as a school counselor is to support you in gaining the necessary skills and confidence to accomplish any goal you set your mind to… because YOU CAN! Some of my passions outside of work are training and competing in Jiu Jitsu, rock climbing, and reading about historical events.

Hello Matador Students and Families,

I am very excited to be joining the Matador team! I received my master's in Counseling from San Diego State University. During my time at SDSU, I was Co-President of the School Counseling Graduate Student Association where I was able to connect with other counselors and collaborate with faculty.  Although this is my first year at Mount Miguel, my previous roles have included being a Wellness Counselor, College & Career Readiness Coordinator, and College Advisor. In these roles, I supported students in creating their own post-secondary plans which included a variety of paths such as college, workforce, military, trade school, and more. As the first in my family to attend college, I quickly realized the barriers that many first-generation students face. However, I also saw many strengths and skills from being first gen. This led me to explore careers in mental health, counseling, and education. Overall, my goal is for all students to have a safe space to be their authentic selves. I am excited to use my prior experiences to best support all students and families at Mount Miguel! During my free time, I enjoy going to the dog park with my pug and husband, listening to music, and exploring new coffee shops around the city. I love learning about new music and artists so please stop by the counseling office and share your favorite song! I am looking forward to an awesome year ahead.

Hola & Mabuhay Matadors,

The 2023-24 school year is my 19th year as a school counselor at The Mount.  I am very blessed to be able to serve students and families of the Spring Valley and Lemon Grove communities.  It is a true honor and privilege to support students with their academic, college & career, and social/emotional goals, dreams, and aspirations.  I am a proud Mexipina from the Imperial Valley and moved to San Diego to pursue my higher education in school counseling.  I am a very proud first-generation college graduate.  I believe that ALL students can achieve at high levels at Mount Miguel.  My vision as a school counselor is guided by core values in building meaningful relationships, empowering students and families, inclusivity, equity mindedness, and institutional responsibility for student success.  I am extremely passionate about issues that affect student equity, student success, student mental health and support, and access to resources to attain college and career opportunities after graduation.  I want my students to know that as your school counselor I’m here for you.  Your voice matters.  Your story matters and most of all, YOU matter.  I admire our matador student grit and resilience.  There’s no place I’d rather be than here at The Mount.  I love being a part of the Matador Family and learning something new everyday from my students and families.  When I’m not at The Mount, you can find me adventuring at your nearest farmer’s market, hottest new restaurant (I’m a big foodie), practicing self-care, catching a football game, or with my loving family near and far. I love to explore San Diego and all it has to offer.

Hi Matador Students and Families!

This 2023-2024 school year will be my 3rd year as a school counselor here at the Mount. Prior to Mount Miguel High School I worked for the Chula Vista Elementary School District as a substitute teacher and at Albert Einstein Academy Middle as an Instructional Aid within their Special Education department. Though, I knew that working with high school students and helping them with their academic, college/ career, and social emotional goals was the space that I wanted to be in. Helping students fulfill their future goals is my passion and I feel so privileged to get to work with the students here at Mount Miguel. I was born and raised in San Diego. I am the oldest of 5 siblings and was raised by a single mother. I am the first in my family to have graduated from a 4-year university and realize how impactful my high school experience was to get me to where I am today. I am a huge proponent of higher education and aim to bridge the gap for our wonderful students. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my little family, that includes my 11 month old son, 4 year old son and husband. I enjoy going on hikes, camping, and exploring national parks whenever I get the chance. So far I can cross off: Glacier National Park, Zion National Park, The Grand Canyon, Yosemite National Park, and Yellowstone National Park off my list.

Hello Matadors,

I am delighted to join an amazing group of educators here at Mount Miguel and take on the role of Mental Health Counselor! I have worked with a diverse population of students throughout my professional career and have developed a passion for supporting students holistically. My goal is for all of my students to feel heard and acknowledged. I accomplish this by lending a listening ear, keeping an open mind, and respecting the students . What makes me a successful counselor is my ability to build genuine connections with my students and approach them with an asset-based mindset. My goal is for students to feel empowered to take control of their future in order for them to become independent thinkers and to contribute to society in a positive way. During the weekend you can find me at the farmer’s market, enjoying a bowl of pho, or at a Padres’ game. I also enjoy practicing self-care through yoga, pilates and hiking.

My door is always open. I look forward to meeting all of you!

Hello Matador Students and Families!

This is my first year coming to work as a Mental Health Specialist with Wellness Together on your school campus, and I am extremely excited to be here. I graduated from California State University San Marcos with my Master’s degree in Social Work. Today, I am currently a Registered Associate Clinical Social Worker. I work with Wellness Together to provide free and accessible mental health therapy on your school campus. I have a passion for providing quality mental health care for youth, while also addressing systemic barriers that may impact student well-being. It is critical to me that I am able to hold a safe space and maintain a safe environment for every single student. I have experience working with diverse populations at various school sites across San Diego county, and I thoroughly enjoy working alongside youth as they embark on their life’s journey. My hope is to collaborate with students and school staff in order to create a school setting where anyone can feel empowered and seen as their authentic selves. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with loved ones and I love collecting sneakers. My favorite type of music is Rnb, Reggaeton, and Rap. I am grateful for the opportunity to support student mental health at your school.
