Check out our Remembrance Day art that the kids worked on this week.
It's been a busy week around here. We got through all kinds of things. Here a few highlights:
ELA - We focused on Peace this week. We read stories and poems, did some writing, and discussed it and Remembrance day.
Phonics - We practiced reading and spelling words that end with /k/ sound. Today I sent home their phonics scribblers and a Roll and Read sheet. Please have your child practice the passage and words that we worked on. Extra practice will build their accuracy and fluency. A bonus activity is getting them to spell these words. Please send their phonics scribbler back after the break.
Math - This week we worked on sorting using 2 sorting rules at a time. The kids organized information into Venn diagrams. When we return from the break, we will work on gathering and organizing data.
Science - We have been looking at different kinds of materials that things are made of. When they return, we will talk about what properties are and why certain materials are used for certain things.
Social Studies - We started a unit on mapping this week. We practiced the 4 cardinal directions.
Mrs. Angela - Angela is a member of the Mental Health Capacity Building Team for Blackgold. She comes and visits us for a period each week. She is doing a program with the kids called McFinn. This program is all about kindness.
Over the break, I will get some assignments into Powerschool. I know I said that at the end of Sept but then the strike happened. I am looking forward to meeting with you at the beginning of December to discuss your child's progess. Please see the Prinicipal's Corner for more information abut this.
Please check the Principal's Corner for quick links to complete skating permission, get more information on the new milk program, and to get more information about parent meetings that are coming up next month. Please let me know if you are able to help out during skating. 2B will skate Wed-Friday (Nov 19-21) from 2:00-2:30. I will need a couple people on the ice with us and people there to help with skate tying.
Now that winter weather is here, please ensure that you are sending your child with winter clothing to keep them warm. An extra pair of mittens or gloves is a good idea as they go out for 2 recesses a day.
I hope you all enjoy your fall break next week. I will see the kids back on Nov 17th.
