We have been busy here at school. Here are a few highlights:
Science - We did a couple of virtual coding activities with the Blackgold technology "guy", along with many other classes in Blackgold. Scratch Jr and Code.org were the 2 sites we were using.
Phonics - We worked on the /ng/ spelling pattern. I will do a check in on Monday to test their understanding of that and other digraphs. The kids brought home their decodable scribblers this weekend. Please listen to them read some of the short stories in it. They need practice and repetition to build their fluency. These decodable passages are kind of like training wheels on a bike.
Social - We learned about 3 physical regions in Canada: Appalachian, Canadian Shield, and Great Lakes regions.
Science - We are learning about properties of materials.
Advent Calendars - To celebrate the month of December, we have been adding a couple extra special activities each day. Ask your child what some of these are.
Art - In a slideshow below, you will see some of the completed winter village pieces that the kids did.
Math - The kids have been working on numbers to 1000. They are expected to count by 1's, 2's, 5's, 10's, 20's, and 25's. Practicing these skills orally would be helpful.
Book Fair - The kids had a blast visiting the book fair this week. It will be open 1 more day, Tuesday, Dec 16th.
Virtual Conferences - It was so nice talking to many of you this past week.
I hope that we have our whole crew back next week. I look forward to finishing up a couple units, along with doing many Christmas themed activities. I hope everyone is healthy soon!
Please check out Mr. Coffin's Principal's Corner for all sorts of important news and information.
One last thing, don't tell your child. On Friday, Dec 19th, I want to surprise the kids with a pancake breakfast in the classroom. This will be revealed during our morning advent calendar. They are encouraged to wear PJ's and to bring a stuffy (reasonably sized) to school that day.
This will be my last post before Winter Break. Wishing you all a safe, happy, and healthy holiday season. Take care everyone!
