Confidentiality Statement

MLWGS Counseling Department Confidentiality Statement

School counselors and school psychologists are required to take action if students present clear and imminent danger to themselves or others, when their health or safety is at risk. It is our responsibility to call the parents if a student plans to or has already self-injured (i.e., cutting, burning, suicide attempt, etc.), indicates an eating disorder, possible alcohol or other drug use, runaway plan, or other dangerous behavior (Hansen, 2009).

If a student’s behavior is a threat to others, the matter is turned over to administration, who then contacts the parents.

In circumstances of suspected abuse or neglect, a report will be made.
