The purpose of this practicum is to provide opportunities for pre-service student teacher to further improve their crafts and skills in teaching. We learned about the teaching style, the curriculum, and how to make lesson plans in accordance with the needs of our learners. How to make the lesson and discussion not boring and to keep the learning process of the learners in the most fun and creative way. Through this program, the future teachers gathered experience and insights in the school environment of other countries like Vietnam. This is marked up as a venue for cultural exchange since living in other countries having different backgrounds is hard for those people who have a first-time experience going abroad.
We started our practicum by observing classes held at Future Primary School. I observed how teachers kept the minds of the learners entertained while learning. The outcome of this practicum taught me to be flexible in teaching, adjusting to situations, and handling them with ease. This serves as a meaningful experience in my future teaching career. It always flashes to mind the feeling and the memories of teaching and participating in this program. It benefited me a lot since it taught me how to handle a class with learners who have different backgrounds, behaviors, and personalities, it taught me to be patient and have a purpose for why I want to teach. Also through this, I was able to practice my English and my communication skills as a person.
The challenges that I experienced were the language barrier in teaching since Vietnam uses a tonal language and also some students experience difficulty in comprehension if I talk fast in English aside from that I was having difficulty managing my time in class discussions. We were given 40 minutes to finish our class finishing the content of our lesson plans but for the next days of my teaching, I was able to adjust to the given discussion time.
Since were given 21 days to experience and participate in the Pre-Service Teacher Student Exchange Practicum Program I want to suggest that maybe they could prolong the practicum period for exactly a month. Providing a lot of observation time could really be helpful to fully observe how the curriculum of the institution is implemented. Students should be given a lot of exposure to an actual school learning environment from public school to private school. Overall this practicum helps many aspiring future teachers with a purpose.
