The first thing that I do when I enter the class is prepare the learning materials that I need to use and check the classroom for the student's comfort. We start with the exchange of formality and proceed to the motivational activity which is giving out activities with regard to the topic that is about to be discussed. After the initial activity, I asked them about what is their idea about the said activity, and the learners showed enthusiasm in answering. Proceeding to the lesson proper, I let them open their books and we discussed the European Union and its contribution to the world's economy. Learners that having difficulty in the discussion further ask for an explanation about the topic. I provided a PowerPoint presentation with English and Vietnamese translations for easy and smooth discussion. From time to time I ask for some volunteers to read what is written on the slides for more participation from the learners. After the lesson proper I give an evaluation in the form of an essay writing activity in which they are going to write on a pad of paper and share it with the class.
I teach for 40 minutes in the Future Primary School in Grades 6 and 7 History and Geography for the 1st and 2nd days I teach for Grade 7 with the topic of the European Union and for the 3rd and 4th days, I teach on Grade 6 with the topic of Memory Schema. The lesson plan is my basis for teaching. The teaching and learning process is divided into five parts which are;
Preliminary Activity ( Greeting and Motivation)
Learning Activity( Exercising Activity)
Lesson Proper ( Presentation of a topic using PowerPoint Presentation and discussion)
Application
Evaluation
Managing the classroom and the students from Grade 6 to Grade 7 is not that difficult, they pay attention to the class discussion and participate well in the group activities. Some students tend to talk to their classmate who is nearby, but they listen well if I ask them to focus on the discussion.
The problem that I encounter in teaching at Future Primary School is that some students can't understand if you talk fast, since English is not their second language after Vietnamese I adjust the pace when I am talking and then I provide Vietnamese translation on the PowerPoint presentation in the discussion. Thankfully I have a student observer coming from Dong Thap University who is also majoring in Geography who helps me in my class.
