SAMI TRIBE
The Sami belong to the Finno-Ugric branch of the Uralic family. They are the descendants of the nomadic people who had inhabited northern Europe for thousands of years. The origin of the Sami is vague; some scholars include them in the Paleo-Siberian peoples while others stated that they were alpine and came from central Europe. They believed that the fires in the sky were the souls of the dead and that they had magical effects. The shaman drums had symbols that depicted fires. When the Aurora would blaze in the sky, they would be careful and stay inside and the children were told to quiet down.
However, in most of the Northern communities, there is a strong orthodox christian organization in which local congregations have the freedom to govern themselves.

NENETS TRIBE
Nomadic herding became a part of Soviet economy when they had collectivized reindeer herding and created huge state farms in 1961. After the Soviet Union, the reindeer economy diminished, and the state farms had shrunk. Today, 80% of the reindeer are owned by the herders.
