Synesthesia is when you hear a sound and then you can taste or see colors. For example someone could hear the word "January" and see or think of the color green. Or you could hear the word "Mail" and think or taste apples. The word "Synesthesia" has Greek roots meaning to "perceive together". People with Synesthesia are called synesthetes. Synesthetes can listen to music and see many colors in their mind. They usually also use colors to visualize specific numbers or letters of the alphabet. Synesthesia is completely harmless and does not damage someones health. Synesthesia is very rare and only 5% of the population have the condition.
