Formosan Pangolin Files
Formosan pangolin, a sub-species of Chinese pangolin is a critically endangered insectivorous mammal found only in Taiwan.
Body feature
It’s a toothless mammal found in Taiwan. It eats ants or
termites, catching them with its long, sticky tongue. It has a
long nose, and its body cover with horny taupe scales.
If under threat, pangolins will immediately curl into a tight ball
and will use their sharp-scaled tails to defend themselves.
Habitat
The Pangolin lives in the forest of medium-low altitude and appears more often at an altitude between 300~500m. The species is skilled at digging; it is nocturnal, resting in the cave during day-time and out for food at night. The diet mainly covers insects such as termites and ants. The long tongue is used for sticking ants, followed by swallowing.
Remaining amount
The accurate count of Formosan pangolin isn't calculated. Formosan pangolin was identified with the species which is endangered.
Endangered reasons
1.Because of the pressure of hunting and damage to its natural habitat, this animal is rarely seen nowadays.
2.Lose habitat because of land development, human over preyed, bitten by dogs, and road kill, etc.
