Formosan Magpie ( scientific name : Urocissa caerulea), also known as Long-tailed mountain Niang , is an endemic bird species in Taiwan .
Features
The body of an adult Formosan magpie is 63~68 cm in length. The wing of Formosan magpie is 18~21 cm in length., and the feather of tail is 34~42 cm .The weight of the Formosan Magpie is about 254 to 260 grams.
The beak and feet of the adult Formosan magpie are red. The iris is golden yellow. From the head to the neck, and the chest are black.The ends of the wings are white, and the rest of the body is almost blue. The two of the central feather of tails are black in the middle and white at the end.
Habitat
Mainly distributed in the forest under 1500 meters.
Endangered reasons
Formosan Magpie may be hit by cars or captured by humans. They are also killed by predators. Its habitat has also been invaded by an exotic species of red-billed blue magpie which is a foreign species.
How to protect?
No feeding, no interference, and no active contact.
