Exercising regularly improves our own image of ourselves. By improving our physical health, we also increase our mental toughness. By putting ourselves through the stress of a workout routine, we prepare for stresses in everyday life. Exercise allows us to escape our own reality for a while and allows us to take our minds off of whatever might be stressing us. Exercise also releases endorphins, which are neurotransmitters in the brain that allow us to feel good about ourselves.

A balanced diet is essential to having not only good physical but also mental health. Healthy diet works hand-in-hand with mental health; as it is rightly said, "You are what you eat". Although eating fatty, sugar-filled food may make you feel good, but this good feeling is temporary, and once the time is over, you'll be left feeling worse than before. The brain runs best on a healthy, balanced diet and eating healthy is essential for long-term mental well-being. Good hygiene is important in our own self - image. If we take care of ourselves externally, our mental well-being will flourish. By taking care of our own physical presentation, we will be more confident about ourselves.

The soothing power of music is well-established. It has a unique link to our ears, so it can be an extremely effective stress management tool. Music, in short, can act as a powerful stress management tool in our lives. As music can absorb our attention, it acts as a distraction at the same time. It helps to explore emotions. This means it can be a great aid to meditation and thus helps to prevent our minds from wandering.
To incorporate music with your busy lives, try playing CDs in the car, or put the radio on when in the bath or shower. Singing (or shouting) along can also be a great release of tension and karaoke is very enjoyable for some extroverts. Calming music before bedtime promotes peace and relaxation and helps to induce sleep. Faster music can make you feel more alert and concentrate better. Upbeat music makes us optimistic about life.

No matter if you are a Sikh, Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, any of the many other world faiths, or even non-religious ; spirituality is an important component to maintaining good mental health.
