Holi is a Hindu spring festival in India also known as the festival of colors’ or the festival of joy. Holi is a two-day festival which starts on the Purnima falling in the Bikram Sambat Hindu Calendar in month of Falgun, which falls between the end of February and the middle of March in the Gregorian calendar. The first day is known as choti holi. The second day is known as rangwali holi. People visit family, friends and foes to throw colored powders on each other, laugh and gossip, then share Holi delicacies, food and drinks. The festival signifies the victory of good over evil, the arrival of spring and is also celebrated as a thanksgiving for a good harvest.The main sweet of Holi is 'Gujia'. It is a deep fried pastry stuffed with khoya (Khoa) . It is very popular in North India.

Ganesh Chaturthi festival is celebrated for 10 days to honour one of our Gods, Lord Ganesha. He is known as the God of Auspiciousness and his blessing are sought before the start of any holy ritual. We celebrate it on the fourth and end it on the fourteenth day of the waxing moon period which is known as ‘Shukla Chaturthi’ meaning the 4th lunar day.The dish that is most associated with this festival is called Modak. It is very popular in Maharashtra, from where it is derived. It is a sweet dumpling dessert with two parts. The inside filling is made of freshly grated coconut and jaggery while the outside shell is made of rice flour mixed with khava or maida flour. It is made because it is believed to be his favorite dish which earns him the moniker of Modakapriya or the one who likes modak. He is known by another 108 names.

Navratri is a festival that is dedicated to the nine incarnations of Maa Durga. Kanjak is celebrated to mark the day when Goddess Mahakali killed the demon Kalasura. it is celebrated on either ashtami or navami means the eighth or ninth day. It is basically worshipping womanhood. Firstly, we wash the feet of nine young girls as a mark of respect. They are mostly of six to ten years. Then they are settled comfortably. Tilak is applied on their foreheads and a red thread is tied on their wrists. Also, beautiful and soulful songs are played. Special food cooked on this day includes Black chana, Poori and Halwa. It is served to the nine girls. The girls are then given money and gift to complete the puja. This is how Kanya Pooja (Girl Prayer) in India is celebrated.

Diwali, Deepavali or Dipavali is the Hindu festival of lights. It is celebrated every fall in the northern hemisphere. It is one of the most popular festivals of Hinduism as Diwali exemplifies the devotional "victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance." During the celebration, temples, homes, shops and office buildings are cheerfully decorated. The arrangements, and customs, for the festival last five days. In the Gregorian calendar, the festival typically falls between mid-October and mid-November.it is also known as the festival of lights.In this festival families gather together for lakshmi puja, a prayer to Goddess Lakshmi followed by delicious feasts and firework illumination.

Vijayadashami also known as Dasahara, Dusshera, Dasara, Dussehra or Dashain is a main Hindu festival celebrated at the end of Navratri every year. It typically falls in the Gregorian months of September and October.This felicitous day of triumph of good over evil is celebrated in different ways in various parts of the country. Vijayadashami or Dussehra symbolises the day when Goddess Durga killed Mahishasur(the demon) and hence it is considered as a day for celebrations. In some other parts of India, Dussehra is also celebrated as the day when Lord Ram killed Ravana.

India celebrates its independence day on 15 August every year. It marked the end of a long fought freedom struggle which resulted in the withdrawal of the British rule and the birth of a united republic called India. It is an occasion full of zest and fervour and also a feeling of patriotism.
GuruNank Jayanti or GuruPurab, which marks the birth anniversary of the first Sikh guru Shri Guru Nanak Dev ji is celebrated with lots of festivity and prayers specially by Sikh community . All Guru Dwaras are decorated on the occasion. The celebration begins with the singing of hymns called Shabad and prayers in praise of the Guru. The children are dressed as Panj Pyarayas (five beloved one) during this religious ceremony . The celebration ends with the distribution of the KADA Prasad to all the devotes.
Children's day is celebrated on the birth anniversary of Pt.Jawahar Lal Nehru also called Chacha Nehru who was the first Prime Minister of independent India .
It is said that he loved children and considered them the future of the country so this day is dedicated to all the beloved children of the country.

My number one holiday is a Victory day (9 may)! It’s a day in honor of Soviet union’s casualties and victory in world war 2. We also have a grand military parade every year on 9 may.

The next holiday – Pancake weed or Maslenitsa (20-26 feb)! On this holiday we are making pancakes or “blin’s”, and then we are burning the wooden or straw statue.
