３年生：肩、ひざ、カップゲーム！

The 3rd graders enjoyed their final Funglish Game Time with the exciting “Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Cup” game. Everyone was all ears and quick on their feet, ready to grab the cup at the right moment!

Students listened carefully, repeated the body parts in loud voices, and touched the correct parts with confidence. It was wonderful to see their energy and focus. Great job, 3rd graders!

３年生のファングリッシュゲームタイムがありました。今回は、“頭、肩、ひざ、カップゲーム”をしました。ALTの先生が言った通りの動きをするゲームだったので、ALTの先生の英語をよく聞いて取り組んでいました。特に、ALTの先生が”Cup”と言うのをよく聞いて、ペアの友達より素早くカップをとろうと集中していました。大きな声で英語を繰り返し、また、そのからだの部分を触りながら学習することができました。元気いっぱいにがんばりました！３年生！

Grade 4: Video Messages for Ono and Nukabe ES

４年生：小野小と額部小へのビデオメッセージ

The 4th graders visited their favorite places around the school and recorded videos introducing them and explaining their reasons. Working in groups, students showed great teamwork and excitement.

Beyond the basic sentences “My favorite place is the library” and “I like books,” some students challenged themselves to say “Welcome to Sakura Elementary School!” and ask, “What’s your favorite place?”

They are looking forward to sharing their videos with the 4th graders at the other schools!

さくら小のお気に入りの場所とその理由を伝えるために、それぞれの場所へ行ってビデオ撮影をしました。同じ場所を紹介する友達と協力しながら力を合わせて撮影をしていました。今回は、好きな場所を伝える”My favorite place is the ・・・”と理由を伝える”I like …”を使えるようになることが目標ですが、”さくら小へようこそ“や小野小や額部小の友達に質問を投げかけるなどの工夫をした子もいました。

The 4th graders have started a new unit called “My Favorite Place.” Students practiced vocabulary for different places through fun and interactive games, helping them build confidence in using English.

Each student then chose their favorite place and practiced explaining why they like it. In the next unit, they will record short video presentations to share with the 4th graders at Ono and Nukabe Elementary Schools. This activity provides students with a meaningful opportunity to communicate in English and connect with others.

４年生は“お気に入りの場所”という単元に入りました。学校の場所の表現をゲームで確認しました。そして、お気に入りの場所を選び、その理由を考えたので、次回は小野小学校と額部小学校の４年生に見せるビデオの録画になります。この活動で、４年生が伝える相手を意識してコミュニケーションをとることの大切さを学べる機会となることを期待しています

Exploring Future Club Activities

入りたい部活動

The 6th graders have reached their final English unit before graduating and moving on to junior high school. In this last unit, they studied the club activities offered at Nishi Junior High School, as well as the subjects they would like to focus on in the future.

Through this activity, students reflected on their interests and began thinking about which club they would like to join in junior high school. This lesson helps them prepare for the next stage of their academic journey and supports them in making thoughtful choices about their future.

６年生は、卒業間近となり、いよいよ小学校最後の単元My Future, My Dream”に入りました。今週は、中学校で入りたい部活動と中学校で力を入れたい教科を伝える学習をしました。

この単元を通して、今後の６年生が自分の進むべき道を考えるきっかけになると嬉しいと思います。

Grade 5 students amazed Ms. Kaila with their “Welcome to Japan Tour” video presentations. In another video message, she thanked the 5th graders for their thoughtful and wonderful recommendations.

After watching her thank-you message, the top student presenters were recognized for their excellent work. Everyone challenged themselves to level up their presentations and do even better. Continue to do your best until the final unit, 5th graders!

カイラ先生からの５年生へのお礼ビデオの後には、とても素晴らしいビデオメッセージを送った児童に、賞を渡しました。発表をよりよくしようと前向きに取り組む姿がどの児童もありました。５年生、最後の単元も頑張りましょう！

The 3rd graders watched a fun Animal Puppet Show in the Assembly Room. While watching, everyone listened attentively and reacted excitedly to the animals’ conversations.

For their final task in this unit, students will create their own animal puppet shows in groups. After the show, everyone eagerly practiced saying different animal names in English.

Meet the Grade 4 Pizza Owners

４年生　ピザ店オーナーになりました！

The fourth graders proudly presented their original pizzas to everyone. Each student shared creative and unique ideas, making the presentations fun, lively, and exciting to watch. It was wonderful to see their growing confidence as they explained their pizza ingredients, and their imagination really stood out. The activity became a joyful learning experience for the whole class—and even made the English team hungry just by looking at those delicious pizzas. Great job, Grade 4 pizza owners!

４年生は、オリジナルピザをみんなに紹介する活動をしました。ユニークなピザの発表がとても楽しかったです。ピザの具を紹介する様子から自信を感じました。また、クラスで学び合う楽しさも感じたと思います。４年生のピザを見ていたら、とてもおなかがすいてきてしまう時間でした。頑張りました！

Grade 5 & 6 Video Recording Activity

５，６年生　ビデオ録画活動

Grade 5 and Grade 6 have successfully completed their video recordings about their recommended places and best memories. Everyone did an excellent job, and it was wonderful to see many students grow in confidence and improve their speaking skills. They were challenged to level up their speech by adding more phrases and expressions. Even the shy students stepped out of their comfort zones and confidently shared their ideas, making this activity a rewarding experience for everyone.

５年生はおすすめの場所について、６年生は一番の思い出についての録画を終えました。自信をもって話せるようになった姿があり、とても素晴らしかったです。単元で学習する基本文に追加の表現を入れている児童もたくさんいました。いつもは照れてしまう児童も楽しそうに自信をもって自分の思いを伝えられていたと思います。

The 3rd graders were all smiles as they shared their fun 3-Hint Quiz ideas with their friends. Each group worked together and presented with big voices and great eye contact. Everyone thought hard to get the right answers.

Grade 5: Level Up Video Message for Ms. Kaila!

５年生　カイラ先生への“おすすめの都道府県ビデオメッセージ”をよりよくしよう！

This week, Grade 5 students started recording their video messages for Ms. Kaila. Before recording, they practiced hard and challenged themselves to use level-up phrases like “Let’s try it!”, “I like ramen. Do you like ramen?”, and “Osaka is very nice” to recommend their chosen prefectures.

今週は、カイラ先生へのビデオ録画を始めました。録画の前には、基本の表現だけでなく、”Let’s try it”とカイラ先生にお勧めする表現や“私はラーメンを好きだけれども、カイラ先生はラーメンを好きですか？”などと投げかける表現を加える５年生もいました。

Through repeated practice, students showed clear improvement in confidence, pronunciation, and sentence flow. Next week, they will send their final videos to Ms. Kaila. Great effort, Grade 5—your English level really went up!

練習を繰り返すことで、発音やスピーチ全体の流れが良くなり、自信がでてきました。来週は、一番良く録画できたビデオをカイラ先生に送りたいと思います。頑張っています！力がついてきています！５年生！

Let’s Play Blooket! – Funglish Game with 5th Graders

５年生のファングリッシュゲームタイムーBlooket

Funglish Game Time was full of excitement as the fifth graders took on a Blooket Quiz Game all about food. Everyone stayed focused and eager to earn the highest score, and the room buzzed with energy as students happily swapped points with their classmates. Through colorful pictures, students strengthened their English vocabulary without even realizing they were studying. It was fantastic to see them learning, laughing, and enjoying English at the same time. Awesome job, 5th graders!

５年生のゲームタイムは、Blooketクイズをしました。これは、食べ物のイラストの単語を４つの選択肢から選ぶ形式のクイズで、正解すると得点が加算されていきます。高得点を出すために集中してゲームに取り組み、友達と得点を交換するチャンスがあるとざわめきが起こっていました。まだ知らない表現もイラストを見ながら推測して覚えていくことができたと思います。みんなで楽しく英語を学習できて良かったです。頑張りました５年生！

After winter vacation, we were excited to finally see our fourth graders again. They learned about fruits, vegetables, and other pizza ingredients. In this unit, they’ll design their very own original pizza and proudly present it to everyone. Laughter and excitement filled the room as we played games to practice new English words. The fourth graders were active and eager to participate. We can’t wait to see their creative pizza ideas and cheer them on during their presentations.

冬休み明けに、また元気いっぱいの４年生に会えて嬉しかったです。今回の単元では、オリジナルピザを考えて、みんなの前で発表します。そのために、野菜や果物、そしてピザの材料の表現を学習しました。これらの表現に慣れ親しむためのゲームでは、笑顔で教室がいっぱいになりました。オリジナルピザの発表が待ち遠しいです！

カイラ先生、日本へようこそ！

To start the new year, the Grade 5 students jumped into their English lesson with the “Welcome to Japan” unit. For this activity, the ALTs introduced Ms. Kaila, a new teacher from the Philippines who wants to travel around Japan.

新年最初の単元は、”Welcome to Japan”です。この単元では、フィリピンから日本に来たばかりのカイラ先生に日本のおすすめの場所を伝えます。

In a video message, she asked the 5th graders to recommend places they want to visit, the best season to go, food to try, and souvenirs to buy. The students are now busy finishing their slides to share their ideas with her. Let’s go, Go-nensei!

カイラ先生からのビデオには、５年生が行きたいと思っている都道府県とおすすめの季節、食べ物、お土産を教えてほしいというメッセージがありました。カイラ先生にビデオメッセージを送るために素敵なスライドができました!

Grade 3: Getting Ready for the 3-Hint Quiz!

３年生　３ヒントクイズをしよう！

The 3rd graders are getting ready for their 3-Hint Quiz Tournament at the end of the month. This week, they reviewed shapes and colors and learned new words to help them give clear and helpful hints in English.

３年生たちは、今月末に行う３ヒントクイズ大会に向けての準備を始めました。今週は、形や色などクイズのヒントを出すのに使えそうな単語を学習しました。

As seen in the picture, students played the “Hot Seat” game, where they gave English hints and their classmates guessed the mystery word. Beyond that, they followed the rules—no gestures and no Japanese hints—which was commendable. They can now say words like “big,” “small,” “sour,” and more. Great job, 3rd graders—keep practicing!

この写真は、”Hot Seat”ゲームの様子です。電子黒板に映し出されているイラストを見ていない友達にヒントを出して、ヒントから答えを導き出すゲームです。色や形だけでなく、味や大きさなどもヒントとして伝えられるようになりました。日本語を使わないでヒントを考えるのは、難しかったけれど、少しずつ慣れて言いヒントを出すことができるようになりました。引き続き頑張ろう、３年生！

メリークリスマス

This week, we held a special Christmas lesson with our Sakura students. They had a wonderful time playing various Christmas games while learning about Christmas characters and practicing fun gestures. The lesson was filled with laughter, energy, and smiles.

今週は、クリスマスの授業がありました。クリスマスに関する単語を使いながらクリスマスのゲームをしました。笑顔がたくさん見られた時間でした。

The ALTs also shared Christmas culture from the Philippines, introducing traditional holiday foods such as ham and roasted pig (lechon). Through simple games, dances, cultural sharing, and small gifts, we were able to bring joy to the students and create warm, memorable moments during this special season.

ＡＬＴの出身であるフィリピンのクリスマスの過ごし方も知ることができました。例えば、クリスマスには、ハムやレチョンと呼ばれる豚丸焼きを食べることを教えてもらいました。さくら小のみんなと楽しい授業ができて、良かったです。

Grade 6 English Speech Presentation

６年生　スピーチ発表

The 6th graders impressed everyone with their meaningful speeches about how to save animals. They did a wonderful job delivering their presentations and confidently used important communication skills such as clear voices, eye contact, and gestures.

６年生は、「絶滅危惧種の動物を救う方法」についてスピーチをしました。大きな声でみんなをしっかり見て、ジェスチャーを入れながら自信を持って発表することができました。

The students were proud and happy to receive their awards, which recognized their hard work and effort. We hope that next year they will be even more active and confident and continue to enjoy learning English while expressing their ideas freely. Have a fun and relaxing winter vacation, 6th graders!

Grade 5: Welcome to Sakura Restaurant!　さくらレストランへようこそ！

Grade 5 students wrapped up the “At the Restaurant” unit with an exciting role play at the Sakura Restaurant. They took turns being customers and waiters, making and taking orders, suggesting menu items, and telling the total price and change fluently and confidently in English.

At the end of the lesson, “Best Waiter” awards were given to students who showed excellent performance during their Speaking Test. Kudos, Grade 5 students!

Unit6「At the Restaurant」のまとめの活動として１，２組合同の授業をおこないました。お客さん役と店員役を交互にしながら、スムーズに注文をとったり、おすすめのメニューを提案したり、合計額やおつりを伝えたりできるようになりました。

授業の最後には、レストランの話すテストですばらしい店員役をした児童に、賞をわたしました！頑張った５年生みんなに、拍手を送ります!

Grade 3: A Christmas Surprise　　3年生　担任の先生へ　クリスマスサプライズ大成功！

The 3rd graders surprised their homeroom teachers with beautiful handmade Christmas cards. Each card was creatively designed with colorful shapes and heartfelt messages.

During the presentation, students handed their cards to their teachers while saying, “This is for you! Merry Christmas!” It was a warm and happy way to end the second term. Nice work, 3rd graders!

担任の先生を驚かせようと、こっそりと手作りのクリスマスカードを作っていました。色々な形と担任の先生へのメッセージを添えて、素敵なカードに仕上げていました。

今日は、担任の先生のために作ったカードを渡すお楽しみの時間でした。“メリークリスマス！先生のために作りました！”という一言を添えながら、一人ずつ担任の先生へカードをプレゼントしました。３年生！サプライズ！大成功！

Grade 4: Learning Singular and Plural: Stationery Edition

文房具の表現の学習

The 4th graders have started learning stationery items in both singular and plural forms. They did their best to pronounce all the words correctly, and for those who needed extra support, we helped them practice the correct pronunciation—especially words like staplers, rulers, and pencil sharpeners. It was also wonderful to see the students helping their friends say the items properly.

Before the winter vacation, they will present their best stationery item to their homeroom teachers. We are looking forward to their presentations and to seeing their confidence grow.

文房具を英語で伝えられるように頑張りました。英語では、数によって文房具の表現の仕方や発音の仕方が変わります。そのポイントに気をつけながら、ホチキスや定規などの文房具の練習をしました。わからないところがあると、助け合いながら活動できる４年生！

2学期の最後は、担任の先生のための文房具セットを考えて発表します！楽しみです！

Grade 6: Let’s Save the Animals!

６年生：絶滅危惧種の動物を救おう！

The 6th graders are currently learning animal names, habitats, and the problems animals encounter. They are very interested in this lesson—maybe because children really do love animals. They did a great job guessing the animal names and habitats by giving hints, and they enjoyed playing Snakes and Ladders to practice the target sentences. They also had a sharing practice with their classmates, confidently talking about animals and listening to each other’s ideas. Most of them can now say all the target words in English with confidence. Good job, 6th graders!

５０年先の未来に残したい５０種の野生動物から一つを選び、発表をする単元が始まりました。そのために、動物の名前や生息地、また動物たちが直面している問題について学習しています。どの児童も興味を持って活動に取り組めています。難しい表現もありますが、友達から動物の生息地などのヒントをもらって何の動物なのかを当てるゲームやすごろくゲームをしながら練習を重ねています。頑張っています、６年生！

Grade 6 Best Original Dinner Menu Presentation Recognized

６年生　夕食献立の表彰

To wrap up Unit 5, the 6th graders presented their original dinner menus to their homeroom teachers. Students who delivered excellent presentations received special certificates for their great work. They carefully thought about their menu ideas, explained where the ingredients came from, and shared thoughts and impressions. The HRTs enjoyed listening to the variety of recipes and said they would love to try them all.

Unit5のまとめとして、６年担当の先生のために夕食の献立を提案する発表をしました。どの児童も、担任の先生が喜ぶ献立や食材の産地などを一生懸命考えて伝えていました。伝え方や英語の表現で工夫をしていた児童を表彰しました。担任の先生達は、色々な夕食献立のアイディアがとても参考になったと話していました。

Many students also challenged themselves to level up their presentation skills by asking questions to the audience. It was wonderful to see them use English in a truly“Funglish”way—not just fun, but also functional.

発表では、聞いている人に質問を投げかけている児童も多くいました。このように双方向のコミュニケーションがFUNGLISHの目指す姿で、とても素晴らしかったです。

Grade 5 Getting Ready for Sakura Restaurant

５年生　さくらレストランへの準備が進んでいます！

Are you ready for the Sakura English Restaurant? Because the Grade 5 students are! This week, they learned how to ask and answer “How much is it?” and to say “Your change is…” in English.

５年生は、レストランで値段を聞いたり、おつりを伝えたりする練習をしました。

Saying prices can be challenging for many Japanese, but the Grade 5 students are up for the challenge! “100, 200, 450…”—everyone is practicing hard and getting excited for their final task this semester!　　

１００円、２００円、４５０円など値段を英語で伝えるのは難しいですが、一生懸命練習を重ねていました。5年生、２学期最後の単元を楽しみながら頑張っています。

6th Graders Take on the GTEC Challenge!

GTECに挑戦!

This week, the 6th graders took on the challenge of the GTEC test. Many of them felt both excited and nervous, but they gave their best effort to answer every question with confidence. The GTEC test helps students develop and measure their English communication skills — including listening, reading, writing, and speaking. It also provides them with the opportunity to experience real-life English communication and build confidence in expressing their ideas. Through this meaningful challenge, students not only tested their language abilities but also learned the importance of focus, effort, and perseverance. We are truly proud of their hard work and positive attitude. Good job, everyone.

GTECに挑戦しました。初めてのGTECテストにワクワクとドキドキが入り交じっていたと思います。GTECでは、自分自身の英語の４技能（聞くこと、読むこと、書くこと、話すこと）の力を知ることができます。実生活の中で使う場面を想定した問題を解いたりする英語力を試すだけでなく、集中して取り組むこと、最後までやり抜くことの大切さも学べたのではないかと思います。頑張りました。

世界の時刻！

Our 4th graders confidently delivered a short presentation about the time around the world. Their teamwork and cooperation made the presentation smooth and impressive. Each group spoke clearly and did their best to share what they learned. After the presentations, the students watched themselves on TV, and the classroom was filled with smiles and laughter. Everyone truly enjoyed seeing their hard work on screen.

4年生は、世界の時刻を実況中継形式で発表しました。チームで協力して、とても堂々とした発表をすることができました。録画した発表をみんなで楽しく見ることもできました。４年生、頑張りました!

This week, we wrapped up Grade 5 lesson on telling directions by giving awards to students who did a great job during the speaking challenge with the ALTs. Everyone showed big improvement and really leveled up their English skills!

道案内のスピーキングテストをした際に、特に相手にわかりやすく伝えて児童にALTから賞を渡しました。スピーキングテストでは、英語の力を伸ばしている５年生の様子があり、とても嬉しかったです。

授業以外で道案内に挑戦した５年生がいます。その挑戦とは・・・来校者4名を職員玄関から英語室までご案内するというものです。緊張しながらも、今まで習った表現を使いながら、案内することができました。英語室まで無事に案内できると、とびきりの笑顔をみせてくれた５年生でした。

Grade 3: Popularity Survey Time!

The third graders worked on an interview task this week to make their own Popularity Survey! In groups of three, they asked questions like: “What food do you like?” “What ramen do you like?”“What season do you like?”

3年生は、クラスの人気のものについて調査するインタビュー活動を行いました。３人一組で一つの調査項目を作り、回答してもらいました。調査に内容項目は、「好きなラーメンの味は？」「好きな季節は？」など各班の工夫した様子がありました。

They took memos carefully and used many English reactions while interviewing their classmates. It was great to see them speaking more English and becoming better at working together in groups.

友達から聞いたことをメモしたり、友達の発言に対してリアクションをしたりしながら一生懸命取り組んでいました。英語を話している様子だけでなく、班で協力して活動している姿もとても良かったです。

Now we are all excited to find out…What will be Number 1 in each category?

ハロウィーン

Our cheerful 1st and 2nd graders had a fun and exciting Halloween celebration with the ALTs. They happily learned about different Halloween characters such as witches, ghosts, vampires, skeletons, and pumpkins, and were excited to say them in English.

１、２年生がハロウィーンの授業を楽しみました。魔女、お化け、かぼちゃなどのハロウィーンに関連した言葉を学習しました。みんな上手に英語で言うことができました。

The students also enjoyed joining various Halloween games, showing great teamwork, energy, and big smiles. We were impressed that most of them could confidently say the characters' names in English, and they were very engaged throughout the activities.

ゲームを通して、次第に自信をもってハロウィーンの言葉を言うことができるようになりました。チームワークよく、元気いっぱいの１，２年生でした。

It was a joy to see everyone laughing, playing, and enjoying the Halloween spirit together. We, the ALTs, were very happy to see the students having so much fun with the games we prepared.

6th Grade English Lesson – Food & Production Areas

6年生　食べ物と生産地

The 6th graders studied food and ingredients and learned how to say the production areas (such as prefectures and countries) in English.
To practice, they played a Production Area Guessing Game, where they guessed where different foods came from. 6年生は、献立名と食材、そして生野菜や肉など食材の生産地の伝え方を学習しました。生産地の言い方に慣れるために、生産地推測ゲームをしました。

The students had a lot of fun, and many of them were able to guess the correct prefectures and countries. It was a great way for them to review English vocabulary while learning more about food origins around Japan and the world.

生産地を推測するゲームでは、地域のヒントから国や県をすぐに当てることができた６年生もたくさんいました。とても楽しく、前の時間までに学習した語彙を復習する良い機会にもなりました。

Our fifth graders acted like live Google Maps, helping each other navigate their own original towns at the gym! Beyond simply saying where places are, the students practiced confirming information politely by repeating their partner’s words to make sure they understood correctly.

Some students challenged themselves using new expressions such as “It’s by the A,” “It’s in front of the A,” and “It’s between Point A and Point B.” Their enthusiasm, teamwork, and creativity made the activity both fun and meaningful!

５年生は、これまでに工夫して創ったオリジナルタウンの施設を体育館に設置して、道案内を行いました。今までの学習を生かして、インターネット上のマップ検索にも負けないほど正確にペアでの道案内をし合っていました。ペアから尋ねられた場所までの道順を伝えるだけではなく、案内を繰り返したり、自分の聞き取りが合っているかを確認したりしながらすばらしい道案内をしました。「○○のそばにあるよ」「○○の向かいにあるよ」「○○と○○の間だよ」などと詳しい説明に挑戦していた５年生もいました。自分たちで工夫して創ったオリジナルタウンの道案内だったので、積極的にクラス全員が参加できた楽しい活動になりました。

“Guess the Liar” Presentation　

本当のことを言ってないのは誰？

The 3rd graders delivered their presentations through a fun and interactive “Liar Guessing Game.” All students participated enthusiastically, including those from the special class, who joined their groups and spoke confidently in front of everyone.

３年生は「本当のことを言っていないのは誰？」ゲームで楽しい発表会を行いました。みんな自信をもって発表をすることができました。

In small groups, students shared what they like and don’t like, while their classmates tried to guess who wasn’t telling the truth. Laughter and excitement filled the room as everyone practiced listening carefully and using English to communicate their ideas. Nice work, 3rd graders!

発表は、各グループ４～５人で、それぞれが「好きなこと」「きらいなこと」を伝えました。とても盛り上がったのは・・・発表者のうちの一人が本当のことを言っていないので、それが誰なのかを当てるゲーム形式になっていたからです。クラス全員が友達の発表をとてもよく聞いていて、本当のことを言っていない人が誰なのかがわかると、毎回歓声があがっていました。

Funglish Game Time is back every Wednesday!

ファングリッシュゲームタイムを再開しました！

This week, we had a fun and exciting Funglish Game Time with our cheerful 1st and 2nd graders. The students participated in the Animal Gesture Game, where they showed their best gestures of a rabbit, monkey, and frog.

運動会が終わり、昼休みのファングリッシュゲームタイムを再開しました。久しぶりのゲームタイムは、元気いっぱいの１、２年生と行いました。内容は、ウサギ、サル、カエルのジェスチャーゲームでした。

Before doing their gestures, each student proudly said, “I love Funglish!” with a big smile and a loud voice. Their energy and enthusiasm made the room lively and full of laughter.

「I love Funglish!１，２，３」の英語に合わせて、先生やリーダーの友達とジェスチャーが同じにならないように、動物のジェスチャーを上手にしていました。１，２年生の元気な声が体育館に響いていました。

Activities like this are a great way to build students’ confidence, encourage them to speak English naturally, and help them remember vocabulary through movement and play. It was wonderful to see everyone actively joining in and enjoying the lesson.

Funglish Game Time is not just about learning words — it’s about making English fun, exciting, and meaningful for young learners.

Exploring Time Around the World

世界各国の時刻

This week, our 4th graders started a new unit: “What time is it?” They learned how to tell the time in English and talked about time around the world.

４年生の新しい単元は「今、何時？」です。世界各国の時刻を英語で言えるように頑張りました。

They also enjoyed watching a video from their teachers showing different time zones. It was great to see that they still remembered the countries and greetings from past lessons.

各国の時刻を紹介するビデオを見て、国によって時刻が違うことに驚いていました。各国の時刻の他に、今までの学習した国や挨拶も含まれていたので、よい復習の機会にもなりました。

The students had so much fun playing the Bingo game, where they wrote their favorite time and asked their friends, “What time is it?” The Funglish Team was happy to see how excited and confident the students were. Great job, 4th graders!

Grade 5 students introduced Sakura Elementary School teachers to ALTs

５年生 ALTにさくら小の先生達を紹介

Even though everyone was busy preparing for Sports Day, the Grade 5 students gave wonderful English presentations about the teachers of Sakura Elementary School. They introduced their teachers by saying job titles such as principal, vice principal, secretary, and homeroom teacher clearly and correctly. They also shared what their teachers can and can’t do, and used words like kind, smart, active, and cheerful to describe them.

運動会前の忙しい毎日の中で、５年生たちは、さくら小の先生達を紹介するスピーチに挑戦しました。スピーチでは、各先生の担当学年や得意なこと、苦手なことに加え、優しい感じの先生なのか、活発な感じの先生なのかなど先生達の性格や人柄についても伝えました。

Some students even made their presentations more interactive by asking the audience questions and giving nice reactions. A few teachers came to watch, which made the students very happy. The ALTs also enjoyed listening and learning new things about Sakura teachers.

🍉Summer Vacation News: 6th Graders Impress as Newscasters🍉

６年生：夏休みの思い出をニュースキャスターになりきって

The 6th graders did very well in their summer vacation news presentations as newscasters. They challenged themselves to add additional phrases to their speeches and successfully used all the key communication points, such as speaking with a big voice, making eye contact, and using gestures.

６年生たちは、ニュースキャスターになりきって夏休みの思い出を伝えました。アイコンタクトや大きな声などを意識したり、今まで習った表現を効果的に入れたりしながら発表を頑張っていました。

Listening to their presentations was both interesting and fun, and it was clear that everyone enjoyed sharing their summer vacation experiences with friends and teachers.

それぞれの夏休みの思い出は、興味深く、クラスメートの発表をとても楽しそうに聞いていました。

The Funglish Team also selected the Best Newscaster for this unit. They chose the student who gave an impressive performance and was able to demonstrate all the key communication points. This recognition is a wonderful way to motivate the students, and we are confident that in the next unit, they will continue to do their best and showcase their English skills. Well done, 6th graders! You did an excellent job as newscasters. 😃💫

Meet our little kanji teachers!

ALTに漢字を教えてくれたのは・・・さくら小の３年生！！

Our 3rd graders stepped into the spotlight for their very first presentation challenge of the term!

３年生たちは、発表活動に挑戦しました。

Each student proudly introduced a kanji of their choice to the ALTs. Many selected the kanji from their own names, while others shared their favorite or an easy one they liked. Impressively, everyone was able to say the correct number of strokes in English!

漢字をもっと知りたいと思っているALTのために、一人一人が漢字一文字を選んで紹介してくれました。名前に使われている漢字、簡単で覚えやすい漢字や好きなものにちなんだ漢字など様々な漢字をALTに教えてくれました。漢字の画数も正しく英語で伝えてくれました。

Although a few are still working on overcoming their shyness, standing and speaking in front of the class was already a big step forward. It was wonderful to see their effort and courage. Nice work, 3rd graders!

発表がはずかしいなぁと思う児童もいたかもしれませんが、みんなの前で発表の時間になると、とても堂々とした様子で素晴らしかったです。みんなの頑張りと勇気に拍手を送ります。がんばりました！３年生！

6th Grade: Summer Vacation News!

６年生　夏休みニュース！

Welcome back to school, everyone!
We hope you all had a wonderful summer vacation. This 2nd semester, our 6th grade students are working on an exciting new unit. They are creating slides to share their summer memories—where they went, what they did, what they ate, and even what they bought.

2学期が始まりました。良い夏休みを過ごせたでしょうか。２学期の最初の単元は、「夏休みの思い出」のスピーチです。夏休みにどんなことをしたのかをみんなに伝えます。

This activity helps them reflect on their summer and practice English in a fun, creative way. Step by step, they will prepare to present their stories as newscasters in the final unit. It’s exciting to see them speak clearly and confidently—just like real TV reporters.

少しずつ練習を重ね、最後はニュースキャスターになりきって発表をします。本当のテレビ番組のニュースキャスターのようにはっきりと自信をもって伝えられるように一緒にがんばりましょう。

The ALTs are also looking forward to watching their presentations. It will be a great chance for everyone to learn more about each other and enjoy English together!

Grade 5 students spotlight Sakura ES teachers

５年生　さくら小の先生紹介

Recharged from their long summer vacation, the Grade 5 students are back and ready for another exciting challenge in Funglish! For their very first goal of the 2nd term, they took on the role of interviewers.

夏休みを満喫した５年生が戻ってきました。２学期の最初は、さくら小の先生へのインタビューから始まりました。さて、なぜでしょう・・・

They created their own interview questions, organized their schedules, and visited Sakura ES teachers to conduct interviews. Their objective is to prepare and deliver a speech presentation for the ALTs, highlighting what they learned about each teacher.

それは・・・ALTから５年生へ「もっとさくら小の先生のことを知りたいから、先生紹介をしてほしい」というお願いをしたからです。先生紹介の情報収集のために、質問を考えたり、インタビュー日を調整したりして頑張っていました。

Along the way, they expanded their vocabulary, learning words such as principal, vice principal, secretary, and more. They are now actively working on writing and rehearsing their speeches. The presentations will give them an opportunity to showcase both their English skills and their ability to introduce others with confidence.

この単元を通して、「校長先生」「教頭先生」「事務の先生」などの表現を英語で言えるようになって、自分以外の人を紹介することに挑戦します。

Grade 6: Around the World with Our 6th Grade Travel Agents!

６年生　　旅行代理店の人になって海外ツアー紹介

Before summer vacation, the 6th graders gave the ALTs an exciting tour as part of their one-on-one performance test.
In this activity, each student took on the role of a travel agent and confidently recommended a country to visit. They described what visitors could see, buy, and eat—all in English—doing their best to convince the ALTs to choose their country!

The English team was amazed by the students’ speaking skills and confidence. We also observed how well they used communication strategies to engage the listener and get their message across clearly.

６年生は、ＡＬＴとパフォーマンステスト（ＡＬＴと一対一で話す実技テスト）として、旅行代理店の人になりきって、海外のツアーを紹介する活動を行いました。

お勧めの国の観光地、お土産、名物などについて調べ、紹介しました。お勧めの国の魅力を伝えて、ＡＬＴにツアーを気に入ってもらおうと一生懸命伝える姿が、とても素晴らしかったです。

日々の学習を積み重ね、コミュニケーションをうまく進めるテクニックを身に付け、自信をもって話すことができるようになってきています。

After all the presentations, we selected the Best Travel Agent, and the winners received a Certificate of Appreciation. The students were happy and proud of their efforts.

Thank you, 6th graders, for your wonderful travel recommendations! We’re excited to visit the places you introduced and try the delicious food and sightseeing spots you mentioned.

Grade 3: How Many Strokes? ３年生　その漢字の画数は？

Before summer vacation, Grade 3 students enjoyed a fun English and kanji mix lesson! The theme was “How many?” and they practiced counting things like balls, tomatoes, and pencils.

Then came the special challenge: “How many strokes?” Using kanji they have already learned, students asked each other in English and counted the number of strokes.

夏休み前に、３年生は漢字を使って授業を楽しみました。今回のめあては、「いくつ？」と数をたずねる表現です。教科書を使ってボールやトマト、鉛筆などを数える練習をしたあとには、今までに習った漢字について「画数はいくつ？」とたずねあいました。

It’s going to be a long summer vacation—maybe enough time to think of a kanji to teach the ALT next time! Great job this first semester, Grade 3! Keep counting and keep smiling!

4th Graders Showcase their English Skills

4年生の英語力発揮！　世界のお天気リポート！

The 4th graders showcased their English skills in a fun and creative way by making weather report videos. Each group presented the weather in different countries, using appropriate gestures and clear, confident voices. The students enjoyed taking on the role of a reporter, practicing their speaking skills and learning how to engage an audience.

4年生は、世界のお天気リポートで英語力を発揮していました！班ごとにジェスチャー、はっきりした声で、自分たちで選んだ国の天気について紹介しました。お天気リポーターになりきって、何度も英語を練習したり、伝え方を工夫したりしました。

Afterward, we watched the videos from both classes, and it was wonderful to see their reactions. They were excited to see themselves on screen, and many were surprised by how well they did. It was clear they were proud of their work—they did an excellent job! Not only did they practice their English, but they also developed important communication and presentation skills.

次の授業では、1組、２組のお天気リポートビデオを見合いました。自分たちや友達の班のお天気リポーターの様子をわくわくしながらビデオを見ていました。英語力を伸ばすことだけでなく、自分たちの考えや思いを伝える力が確実に伸びています！

Grade 5: I can do it!　

5年生「実は、私・・・できます！」

This week, Grade 5 students gave great “I can / I can’t” presentations! Everyone tried their best to speak clearly, smile, and use a big voice. They also used “level-up” phrases like: “It’s easy/difficult. “I can ski, but I can’t snowboard.” “Can you eat bitter melon?”

“ I can ～” “I can’t～“を使って「意外な自分の特技や弱点」についてみんなに知ってもらう発表をしました。はっきりとした声、笑顔で発表を頑張りました。5年生の素晴らしかったところは、基本の英文だけでなく、自分の意外なことがよく伝わるように詳しい情報を付け加えたり、クラスに問いかける工夫をしたりしている児童が多かったことです。

Students listened carefully and learned new things about their friends. “Wow! She can cook curry and rice well!” “He can’t play dodgeball?” It was fun, exciting, and helped them get to know each other better. Great job, Grade 5! Let’s keep speaking English with confidence!

This week, our 5th and 6th-grade students had so much fun playing “Name That Flag” using their tablets. They guessed different country flags in English, and everyone was very excited and active! We noticed that students really enjoy using their tablets, so the English team is planning to make the game more exciting for the next Funglish Game time. Thank you to all the 5th and 6th graders who joined! You did a great job and made the game time super fun!😍

５，６年生のファングリッシュタイムは、タブレットを使って“国旗当て”ゲームでした。様々な国旗を当てるのに夢中になっていました。５，６年生がとても楽しく参加している様子を見て、次回のファングリッシュタイムをもっと楽しくしていきたいと思いました。参加した５，６年生、ありがとうございました。楽しいゲームタイムでした！

Grade 3 students wrapped up their Capital Alphabet Letters unit with a fun and friendly initial card exchange activity!

大文字アルファベットのまとめの活動として、友達と楽しくイニシャル名刺カードを交換する活動を行いました。

Each student made a special card using capital letters and exchanged them while doing their BEST: 🌟 Big Voice 🌟 Eye Contact 🌟 Smile 🌟 Try Gestures! Students greeted each other with confidence and used simple English phrases like “Here you are!” and “Thank you!” They made great eye contact, smiled brightly, and used gestures to make their communication even more exciting.

「大きな声」、「アイコンタクト」、「笑顔」、「ジェスチャー」を意識して、自分で作成した名前のイニシャルカードを交換しました。カードを渡す時には、“Here you are!”と“Thank you”の表現を使いながら、自信を持って取り組んでいました。

It was wonderful to see everyone interacting politely and cheerfully. They also improved in recognizing and using capital letters.

相手の目を見ながら笑顔でジェスチャーを使って、友達と関わる姿は、とても素晴らしかったです。。

Grade 1: First Fun Meeting with the 1st Graders

1年生のさくら小での最初の英語の授業

This week, the English team had our very first meeting with the adorable and energetic 1st graders! To kick things off, the English team gave a cheerful self-introduction so the students could get to know us better. We then played a fun and interactive guessing game where the students had to figure out who was telling the truth. Their excitement and laughter filled the room as they eagerly made their guesses and joined in the fun.

今週は、元気いっぱいの１年生との最初の授業がありました。授業のめあては、「英語の先生たちのことを知ろう」でした。先生たちの自己紹介では、先生たちについてのクイズを楽しみました。3人の英語の先生のうち、本当のことを話している先生は誰なのかを予想するゲームで盛り上がりました。予想があたると、大喜びしている姿がとてもかわいらしかったです。

It was a wonderful first encounter, and truly heartwarming to see how engaged and curious the students were while learning English. We’re excited to continue building a fun, supportive, and joyful learning environment with them throughout the year!

Grade 5 tried “Guess it Right Challenge!”

５年生、“ぴったり賞を狙え”に挑戦

This week, Grade 5 students had a fun English lesson! The theme was "Can you ___?" and they practiced asking and answering questions like: Can you cook curry and rice? Can you make a rice ball? Can you bake a cake? Can you cook a sunny-side up egg?

「〇〇できますか」という表現に慣れ親しむために、料理の腕前について友達とたずね合いました。、「カレーを作れる？」「おにぎりを作れる？」「ケーキを作れる？」「目玉焼きを作れる？」などの質問をし合いました。

After practicing together, students played an exciting game called "Pittarisho Wo Nerae!" They had to guess how many classmates could cook a dish. “Maybe 10 can cook curry!” “I think only 3 can make a rice ball!” Everyone enjoyed making guesses—and even more fun finding out the real answers!

この活動は、「ぴったり賞を狙え！」というもので、料理の腕前に関する質問に対して、何人の友達がYESと答えるかを予想し、インタビュー結果と予想があっているかを楽しむものでした。「１０人くらいの友達はカレーを作れるんじゃないかな」「おにぎりを作れるのは３人くらいかな」などと予想して、実際の人数とあっているかどうかをわくわくしながら質問しあってしました。

More than English, they learned about their classmates and shared their own experiences, too.

英語の表現を勉強するだけでなく、友達のことを知ることは、とても楽しい経験になったようでした。

2nd Grade: Let’s make ABC shapes!　

2年生　アルファベット大文字の形を作ろう！

Grade 2 students learned capital alphabet letters—and what a lively lesson it was! They sang the ABC Song with energy, and to our surprise, most of them already knew it by heart.

2年生たちは、アルファベット大文字について学びました。最初に、みんなで元気よくABCの歌を歌いました。

Using a PowerPoint game, we went on a fun alphabet hunt around Tomioka, spotting capital letters in familiar places like UNIQLO, AVAIL, YAOKO, and HAMA SUSHI. To wrap up the lesson, students used strings to form the shapes of each letter, challenging their creativity. It was a fantastic way to build alphabet recognition while having fun. Great job, Grade 2!

富岡市内にあるお店の看板を使って、たくさんのアルファベット探しをしました。さらに、アルファベット大文字の学習のまとめとして、ひもを使って文字を作る活動をしました。それぞれの児童が工夫してアルファベットを形作ってしました。楽しくアルファベットの形を学んだ時間でした。頑張りました、２年生！

6th Graders Impress with Sunday Routine Presentations

The 6th graders impressed their teachers and classmates with fun and creative English presentations about their Sunday Schedule. Each student shared four activities, but one was not true!

日曜日にどのようなことをしているのかについて、工夫しながら発表することができました。発表では、日曜日の過ごし方の情報を４つずつ伝えることに挑戦しました。ただし、そのうちの一つが本当ではない情報なので、情報をよく聞いて、本当でなさそうな情報を推測するという活動でした。

The game made everyone laugh and enjoy guessing which activity was the lie. It was great to see how confident and prepared the students were. Their classmates listened carefully and joined in with excitement.

友達の意外な日曜日の過ごし方を知ったり、本当ではない情報を当てたりするなどとても楽しい発表でした。よく練習を重ねて自信をもって発表でき、素晴らしかったです。

Everyone had a great time—even the teachers were amazed by their effort! Well done, 6th graders!

4th Grade Japanese Food Quiz

4年生日本の食べ物クイズ

To wrap up their lowercase alphabet lessons, the 4th graders hosted a fun Japanese food quiz for the ALTs! Using lowercase letters, students and ALTs took turns giving clues to guess various Japanese dishes.

アルファベット小文字のまとめとして、ＡＬＴのために日本食の紹介をクイズ形式で行いました。アルファベット小文字のヒントをもとに、みんなで何の日本食を紹介しているのかについて考えました。

Everyone enjoyed the activity, which helped reinforce English skills while sharing Japanese culture. The ALTs learned about delicious dishes like saba no miso ni (mackerel simmered in miso) and ochazuke (rice with green tea).

みんなで活動を楽しみ、日本文化を紹介することを通して英語の力を伸ばすことができました。ＡＬＴは、鯖の味噌煮やお茶漬けなどのおいしい日本食を知ることができました。

It was a fun, meaningful, and memorable experience that brought language and culture together. Great job, 4th graders!

5th Graders Interview Teachers in English!

５年生英語で先生インタビュー

Grade 5 students completed their teacher interviews to design the perfect birthday cards. During break time, they visited teachers and asked about their birthdays and the presents they like. ５年生は、先生たちが気に入ってくれるような誕生日カードを作るために、情報集めのインタビューを行いました。休み時間に、誕生日とほしいプレゼントについて質問をしました。さらにほしいプレゼントについて詳しい情報を得るために好きな色や形、メーカーなどの質問をその場で考えて行っていました。

This was a great challenge for the students to speak English naturally and think on their feet. Activities like these help them see English not just as a subject but as a tool to connect with others. Teachers were impressed by the students’ confidence and communication skills. Amazing work, 5th graders!

この活動は、会話の流れに応じて必要な質問を即興的に考えることが大きな挑戦でした。そして、英語を使うことで、様々な人とつながることができる手段の１つであることを感じたのではないでしょうか。インタビューに協力してくださった先生たちからは、「５年生が自信をもって取り組んでいる様子が印象に残った」というお褒めのお言葉をいただきました。すばらしい！５年生！

Welcome to this year’s Funglish Room at Sakura Elementary School!

Our room looks like an airport—full of color, country flags, and fun decorations. Students enter through doors with pilot and flight attendant face cutouts. Students will "take off" to new places, learn about different cultures, and most of all—enjoy using English in exciting ways!

さくら小のFunglish Room へようこそ。今年のFunglish Roomのテーマは、空港です。色とりどりの国旗でわくわくする雰囲気になるようにしています。入り口の扉のパイロットとフライトアテンダントの切り抜きが児童を迎えています。児童が新しい場所へ一歩踏み出し、異なる文化などを学んでいってほしいという思いを込めています。さあ、英語を使う旅を楽しんで行きましょう！

ABC Karuta Fun with 3rd Graders

This week, our 3rd-grade students had their first encounter with Roman letters—and they did a great job! They played ABC Karuta to practice capital letters . Everyone was so excited and focused, shouting out the letters and grabbing the cards! Way to go, 3rd graders! Keep it up! 😀

今週、3年生の子どもたちは初めてローマ字（大文字）にふれました！ABCかるたを使って大文字の練習をしながら、みんなとても楽しそうに取り組んでいました。元気いっぱいにアルファベットを叫んで、カードを一生懸命取る姿が印象的でした。すばらしいスタートをきった3年生のみなさん、この調子でがんばってね！ 😃

6th Graders Have Fun with the Typhoon Game!

The 6th-grade students learned how to talk about their daily schedules in English using phrases like get up, have breakfast, and go to bed. To review, they played the Typhoon Game—a class favorite!

６年生　台風ゲーム

日常生活の“起きる”“朝食を食べる”“寝る”のような表現を勉強しました。みんなのお気に入りのゲーム“台風ゲーム”で繰り返し表現を確認しました。

This fun team game helped students build confidence while enjoying English. The highlight was seeing pictures of their homeroom teachers in the game, which made everyone smile and laugh. It was a fun and memorable lesson. Great job, 6th graders!

このゲームの目的は、英語に親しみなら英語に自信を持てるようにすることです。６年生がゲームを楽しむことができるように、各チームで選んだカードから担任の先生の写真が登場するようにしました。楽しい授業になりました。がんばっています！６年生！

Some Grade 5 students even took on an extra challenge—showing visitors the way to the Funglish Room using the expressions they learned. What a wonderful way to use English in real life!
