DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE 

Assuring quality in an HEI is a holistic approach that covers all processes, including academic, general and financial administration, to serve the Mission and realise the institution's Vision. Thereby, an institution aims to fulfil the expectation of all stakeholders meeting the required standards. At HEIs, Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) is emphasised, which is facilitated and monitored through External Quality Assurance (EQA) measures. Hence, quality assurance, in general, covers the strategic management, process and the QA cycle, i.e., planning with relevant changes, implementing altered plans, monitoring the effectiveness in implementation, taking action on the findings and operationalising optimised strategies/plans in relation to all core functions. The QA cycle should be in continuous operation to effectively achieve the goals.

The University of Peradeniya, for generations, with all its officers, has ensured quality in its core functions through the Council, Council sub-committees, Senate, Senate sub-committees & Vice-Chancellor's advisory committee at the central level, and Boards of Managements (BoMs), Boards of Studies (BoSs) and relevant sub-committees at postgraduate institute (PGI) level, and Faculty Boards (FB) and sub-committees at the faculty level from the inception. Hence, the University stands to be a leading HEI in the country. Furthermore, the University has established the QA framework of the University with relevant by-laws to facilitate IQA measures while maximally benefiting from the EQA measures. Moreover, the institute supports all external QA measures such as external reviews, accreditation, standardisation, external audits etc., which are complimentary to each other and assist the University in maintaining the highest standards possible. 

The University continues to expand its QA framework, establishing Internal Quality Assurance Units (IQACs) covering all faculties, postgraduate Institutes, the CDCE, the library network, and divisions of general and financial administrations. The Management Committee of the Centre for Quality Assurance (CQA) is the QA Standing Committee of the Senate. The CQA initiates, facilitates and monitors IQA activities of the University, liaises with IQACs and promotes all EQA measures of the University.

The CQA aims to ensure the highest quality in pursuing education, learning and research and disseminating knowledge through a robust quality assurance system in the University.
