College-bound Seniors: Schedule a meeting with your counselor at least 6 weeks before your first deadline!
The Aspirations Program provides eligible Maine high school students with an opportunity to receive academic credits toward a high school diploma, and an associate or baccalaureate-level degree, through enrollment and successful completion of college-level courses at approved Maine institutions. This is often referred to as dual or concurrent enrollment.
To be eligible, students must be enrolled in a public high school or be home schooled and meet certain general and academic requirements. The participating institutions must have course space available and may require prerequisite courses for enrollment.
The Aspirations Program is funded by the Maine Legislature and authorized under Title 20-A, Chapter 208-A. The program is administered by the Maine Department of Education.
Students should remember that if they choose to take a college course, they must seek pre-approval AND then request their transcript be sent to WHS from the college once the final grade is issued. Their grade will be on BOTH their high school and University of Maine system transcript. Earning high school and college credit for a course is a great benefit, but also carries a lot of weight. If the grade is low or failing, it will be reflected on both transcripts and can affect the student’s grade point averages in both schools. Please reach out to your counselor with any questions.
