Key Takeaways
Capstone graduation requirement - Mohawk has a designated Capstone Coordinator who manages and helps students to design projects and set goals. Seniors must organize a group of people-- students, teachers, community members-- to be their panelists that will meet to provide feedback twice during the capstone process. Capstones are graded on a standards-based rubric and are a graduation requirement. Students keep track of their learning via journal and other artifacts (digital and print) and present their final work to their panel. A whole-community presentation is being considered.
Whole-school student-run assemblies run twice per month. Each advisory is responsible for leading a whole-school assembly once per year. These assemblies are 7-12 and focus on school news, highlights, and SEL community building.
Student-led conferences. Once per year students lead their own conferences with advisor and caregiver. Students prepare for their student-led conference in their advisory, pulling together artifacts of their learning that demonstrate standards met and growth.
Wednesday is early release (students are released after lunch) so that teachers can meet in "Adult Crew" collaborate with teachers, and have faculty meetings. This is also the time for those student-led conferences.
