Abstract:
Gender may affect a lot of things but do different genders affect playing basketball? The goal of this research is to determine if gender affects when a basketball career peaks, and when their careers usually peak. Basketball in general is important because it is a national sport that is played throughout the world! Previous studies have shown that women athletes tend to peak slightly before men athletes. My first hypothesis objective was that if I look at the overall yearly points per season over time in men and women players of basketball, then I think we will see that men start to score slightly more points per game and peak sooner than women. This was researched by examining 5 NBA players and 5 WNBA players. I looked at their yearly points scored and assists per season and determined the age each player peaked. I then determined the averaged ages of when the women peaked, and the averaged ages of when the men peaked. My data suggested that the women who play in the WNBA usually tend to peak slightly before men that play in the NBA.
