Abstract:
Each year Finch Paper makes about 250,000 tons of paper. With that comes lots of chemical release. Finch Paper releases chemicals like nitrates and ammonia into the water and releases nitrogen oxide into the air. (poststar, 2016) This study relates to the tracking of chemical release on Finch Paper. It’s important to do because there is no documentation on what chemicals H&V may release. Other studies have shown that factories on the river release chemicals into the water and that it is important to make sure the water has appropriate chemical levels. The objective of my research was to see if H&V is releasing chemicals into the water and making a difference in the river. I thought that if the H&Vs were releasing chemicals into the water then the chemical levels before and after the H&Vs would be different. My data suggests that the H&Vs aren’t affecting the phosphorus, nitrates, nitrites, and mercury levels. At least not enough to make a difference.
