Regular attendance in high school is crucial for academic success and is strongly linked to higher graduation rates. When students attend school consistently, they are more likely to stay engaged with their coursework, understand the material, and build strong relationships with teachers and peers. Frequent absences can lead to gaps in learning, lower grades, and a sense of disconnection from the school environment. Studies have shown that students who maintain good attendance are more likely to graduate on time, as they develop the discipline and commitment needed for long-term achievement. Simply put, showing up every day plays a major role in a student’s ability to succeed both in high school and beyond.
On our block schedule, students are allowed to miss 5 days for each semester-long (90-day) class and 3 days for each quarter-long (45-day) class. Absences above this limit violate the SC Compulsory Attendance Law and put the student in danger of losing credit. Therefore, students with attendance overages should recover missed time through seat-time recovery.
If unlawful absences are not made up, students WILL NOT RECEIVE CREDIT FOR THE COURSE.
To assist you with this issue, Woodmont High School offers Seat Time Recovery (STR) options to help make up the seat time required for class time missed.
STR is a 3 hour session.
Serving STR DOES NOT excuse missed work. Makeup work must be coordinated with the teacher.
ALL STR sessions are held at Woodmont High School.
Students will be notified in writing if they owe STR hours by their grade level administrator.
