The Wiz & Wizard Lyrics

Thanks to everyone for their support of the Honors Chorus this year. I am so proud of the students as they gave two wonderful performances of The Wiz - The Wizard of Oz

Monday, May 7, 2018 - 6:00 p.m. - and May 22, 2018 - 8:30 a.m. Grove Elementary Schoo

Thanks to the Honors Chorus Students for singing at the RePack The Backpack event in the Sterling Community on Sunday, March 25, 2018, as well as for the Grove Elementary School Volunteer Breakfast on April 10, 2018. We are now really working on our music and staging for our production of The Wiz - The Wizard of Oz that will be presented as part of our PTA & fine Arts Night on May 7, 2018 - 6:00 p.m. The Honors Chorus will practice every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings 7:15 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. We will also have some special practices so that we can have the students a longer time to teach them their choreography, rehearse the music, and their lines. I will give that information in a timely enough manner to arrange for your child to be at rehearsal and for you to pick them up from school. The special practices are:

We will provide snacks for the students to enjoy during this rehearsal time. We will need parents or guardians to be at the school to pick up your child on time.

Script & Songs – Each of the students have been assigned a part in the cast. It is important that they are learning their lines and the songs. They have received an updated script that contains everything they need to know. Please look on this website for the links to the songs and some of the scenes by going to the top of the page and selecting 2017-2018 Honors Chorus Information. Scroll down to see the name of each song and a YouTube Clip for the students to rehearse with.

Costumes – We are working hard to make sure all of the students have a costume for the production. If you are interested in assisting us with the costumes, or you are willing to get your child one, please send a note to me.

Performance Date Information – On Monday, May 7, 2018, I am asking for all students to remain after school to prepare for the performance. We will give the students Pizza, Chips, and something to drink prior to the performance. If your child has special dietary needs, please feel free to send something for them to eat with them to school. We will take a cast picture.

Thanks for your cooperation and support,

Mr. Terry L. Manigault - Grove Elementary School Music Educator -864-355-5927

3. Munchkinland Sequence

GLINDA : Come out, come out wherever you are, and meet the young lady who fell from a star.

She fell from the sky, she fell very far, and Kansas, she says, is the name of the star.

MUNCHKINS: Kansas, she says, is the name of the star

GLINDA: She brings you good news, or haven't you heard? When she fell out of Kansas, a miracle occurred.

DOROTHY: (spoken rhythmically) It really was no miracle, what happened was just this: (Song) The wind began to switch, the house to pitch, and suddenly the hinges started to unhitch. Just then the Witch, to satisfy an itch, went flying on her broomstick thumbing for a hitch

Munchkins - And, oh, what happened was just rich, the house began to pitch, the kitchen took a slitch, it landed on the Wicked Witch in the middle of a ditch, which was not a healthy situation for the Wicked Witch

Munchkins - The house began to pitch, the kitchen took a slitch, It landed on the Wicked Witch in the middle of a ditch, which was not a healthy situation for the Wicked Witch, who began to twitch, and was reduced to just a stitch, of what was once the Wicked Witch

BURLY, CURLY and JOE: (Spoken) - We thank you very sweetly, For doing it so neatly; You've killed her so completely, that we thank you very sweetly, let the joyous news be spread; The Wicked Old Witch at last is dead “HOORAH”

MUNCHKINS – (Song) -Ding dong the Witch is dead! Which old witch? The Wicked Witch! Ding dong the Wicked Witch is dead. Wake up you sleepyhead, rub your eyes, get out of bed, wake up, the Wicked Witch is dead. She's gone where the goblins go below, below, below; Yo ho, let's open up and sing and ring the bells out; Ding dong the merry-oh, Sing it high, sing it low, Let them know the Wicked Witch is dead---

(Dance Interlude)

Mayor – (spoken) As Mayor of the Munchkin City, In the county of the Land of Oz; I welcome you most regally; But we've got to verify it legally, To see, To see, If she, If she, Is morally, ethically, spiritually, physically, positively, absolutely, Undeniably and reliably dead ( ALL NOD YES! )

Coroner – (spoken or Song) - As Coroner I must aver, and thoroughly examined her, and she's not only merely dead, she's really most sincerely dead. (Spoken) - Then this is a day of independence for all the Munchkins and their descendants. If any, Yes, let the joyous news be spread; The Wicked Old Witch at last is dead!

Munchkins – (Song) Ding dong the Witch is dead, which old witch? The Wicked Witch; Ding dong the Wicked Witch is dead, Wake up you sleepyhead, rub your eyes, get out of bed; Wake up, the Wicked Witch is dead--; she's gone where the goblins go below, below, below; Yo ho, let's open up and sing and ring the bells out; Ding dong the merry-oh; Sing it high, sing it low; Let them know the Wicked Witch is dead—

4 - If I Only Had A Brain- The Scarecrow’s Song

1. Solo - I could while away the hours, conferring with the flowers, consulting with the rain. And my head I'd be scratching, while my thoughts were busy hatching; If I only had a brain.

2. I'd unravel every riddle for any individual, in trouble or in pain. With the thoughts I'd be thinking, I could be another Lincoln; If I only had a brain.

3. Oh, I could tell you why, the ocean's near the shore. I could think of things I never thunk before. And then I'd sit, and think some more.

4. I would not be just a nuffin’, my head all full of stuffing, my heart all full of pain. I would dance and be merry, life would be a ding-a-derry, if I only had a brain.

5 - Slide Some Oil To Me – The Tin Man’s Song

1. Solo - Slide some oil to me, let it slip down my spine, if you don't have S.T.P.; Crisco will be just fine. Slide some oil to me, hit my shoulder blades; All y'all that don't have to lubricate, sure have got it made

2. Slide some oil to me, slip some to my side, standing here in one position; Sure can make me tired. Slip some to my elbows, and my fingers if you would; Come on and slide some oil to me, girl; Whoo! Does that feel good!

3. Slide some oil to my feet, look, I have toes again; come on and slide some oil to my knees, and let me see if I can bend. Slide some oil to me, I'm beginning to feel just fine; Come on Slide some oil down my throat; and let me lubricate my mind; and let me lubricate my mind, and let me lubricate my mind. (Dance Break) And let me lubricate my mind, and let me lubricate my mind, and let me lubricate my mind, my mind.

6 - I A Mean Ole Lion – The Lion’s Song

2. You'll be standing in a draft, if you don't hear me laugh; And if you happen to come around, well, you best not make me frown; For I just might knock you down, I’m a mean ole lion

3. You know, I'm ready to fight, and turn your day into night, 'Cause I'm a mean ole lion; If you're half bright, you'll detour to the right, from a mean ole lion

4. All you strangers better beware, this is the king of the jungle here; And if I happen to let you slide, don't just stand here, run and hide; You just caught my better side, I'm a mean ole lion! I'm a mean ole lion! I'm a mean ole lion---!

and know from the moment you try, if you believe, I know you will

You'll have courage to last your whole life through

4. If you believe in yourself---, if you believe in yourself----! If you believe in yourself as I believe in you------.

10 – Home - Dorothy’s Solo

1. Solo or All Sing - When I think of Home, I think of place; Where there's love overflowing

I wish I was home, I wish I was back there, with the thing I've been knowing

2. Wind that makes the tall glass, bend into leaning; suddenly, the raindrops that fall, have a meaning

Sprinkling the scene, makes it all clean.

3. Maybe there's a chance, for me to go back, now that I have some direction

It sure would be nice, to be back home, where there's love and affection

4. And just maybe I, can convince time to slow up

Giving me enough time, in my life to grow up, time, be my friend, let me start again

5. Suddenly, my world's gone and changed its face, but I still know where I'm going

I have had my mind, spun around in space and yet I've, watched it growing

6. And if you're listening God, please, don't make it hard, to know if we should believe the things that we see? Tell us, should we try to stay, should we run away, or would it be better just to let things be-----?

7. Living here in this brand new world, might be a fantasy; But its taught me to love, so it’s real, real, real to me

And I've learned, we all must look inside our hearts, to find----

A world full of love---like yours like mine-----like home--------

8. All Sing – Like Home--------
