CURRENT PROJECT
"Mural Design Presentations"
April 9, 2025
The Community Room Mural Project is a collaborative design challenge led by 7th grade students in the Sustainability and Beautification class at Fisher Middle School. Students were tasked with creating a mural that would enhance the school’s Community Room by reflecting the core values of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math), Project-Based Learning (PBL), and the cultural identity of Greenville, SC. The project began with a site visit led by Dr. Lynch, where students explored the purpose of the space and discussed how art can create a welcoming and inspiring environment. Students then sketched individual mural concepts and worked in teams to blend their ideas into a final design proposal.
The project culminated in a formal presentation event, where student teams shared their mural designs with a panel of community partners, school leaders, and educators. Using Google Slides, students presented their visual concepts, explained their design choices, and described how their mural embodied the themes of STEAM, PBL, and Greenville pride. Community partners offered feedback and selected one final mural design to be painted in the Community Room by a student mural team. This project not only celebrated student voice and creativity, but also demonstrated the power of collaborative problem-solving, visual storytelling, and authentic community engagement.
