Art 7: Beginning Art Syllabus

Beginning Art is a semester-long course that combines studio art, graphic design, and design thinking. Students will learn to communicate visually, work through open-ended challenges, test materials and ideas, and revise their work through feedback. Projects may connect art to healthy living, inclusion, sustainability, systems, and the school’s larger Artemis theme.

CURRENT PROJECT

Artemis-themed Children's Books

In this project, students create an Artemis-themed children’s book that combines scientific ideas, storytelling, and visual art. They develop a story connected to lunar exploration and use research and feedback to make their ideas clear and engaging for a younger audience. Students write and revise their final text while creating original 8.5” × 11” illustrations that support the story. The finished book demonstrates creativity, communication, design thinking, and an understanding of the challenges and possibilities of Artemis exploration. 

Students are also finalizing their collaborative 9/11 Memorial projects.
