What is WBL?
Work-Based Learning (WBL) gives you the chance to gain real-world experience in a career field while still in high school. You can participate through internships, job shadowing, apprenticeships, and other hands-on opportunities. There are two main options: a 40-hour experience that counts toward Career-Ready graduation status, and a 120-hour internship that can also give you course credit. To qualify, your WBL must connect to your career goals and be approved by your school. You'll need to complete required paperwork, meet classroom or CTE course requirements, and receive a positive evaluation from your worksite mentor. WBL helps you build skills, make career connections, and prepare for life after high school—whether that’s college, a job, or the military.
A student who completes the paperwork and meets the WBL requirements qualifies as career ready.
How to complete the required paperwork for WBL?
Have or obtain a job or coordinated work experience in which you will accrue at minimum 40 hours of experience.
Print the WBL Training Plan Template and the WBL Employer Evaluation.
Complete the WBL Training plan and include a detailed description of your work duties and responsibilities. Your manager/supervisor must sign off on the training plan.
Have your supervisor complete the employer evaluation and notate how many hours you have worked. It is important that this number be greater than 40 hours. You and your employer must sign the evaluation.
Turn the completed training plan AND evaluation in to Mr. Bradford or your counselor.
Congratulations, you are CCR!
*This process can be completed at any point during your time as an EHS student.
