Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year. It's going to be a great year! Your student's School Supply List is on this site on the Weekly Parent Newsletter tab, and was included in last year's 4th Quarter report card.. You are welcome to bring your student's supplies to Meet the Teacher on Thursday, August 3, from 4-6:30 if you would like, or send them the first day of school. Nut-free, individually wrapped snacks for the class are always welcome!
Homework is assigned daily. This means that EVERY Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights, your student will have homework. There is no homework on weekends, with the exception of certain projects.
Texts and study journals will be sent home the weekend before a major grade. We take notes in our Study Journals, and staple in important papers. Journals include our Math Journal, ELA Journal, Social Studies Journal, and Science Journal.
Third grade is an important milestone in independent learning. We will work long and hard on organizational skills. For that reason, it is the student’s responsibility to write down homework assignments from the board, and to complete those assignments. Homework will be checked for accuracy and comprehension, and will be part of your student’s overall grade. Homework is to reinforce the daily lessons, so that we can move on to new concepts each morning. Homework helps your child succeed! Thanks to all parents and guardians for making sure your student completes his/her daily home assignments.
Each student is given a Homework Planner and Homework Folder. All assignments and upcoming tests will be written in the planner. You will see several curriculum sheets in the HW Folder. These are key points we will learn this year. It is provided to help parents understand the content we learn, and to reinforce it at home throughout the year.
There will be an assembly in the cafeteria the first week of school to explain and make clear All Star Behavior. Please see the tab named "Class Behavior Plan".
Forgetting to do homework is not an option, and will result in a silent lunch that day. If a student doesn’t fully complete homework AND THE PARENT/GUARDIAN SENDS A NOTE THAT MORNING, and this doesn’t happen often, I’ll consider rare exceptions.
There are many ways to help your student. Please be sure to check the school district portal weekly to review your student's grades and assignments. All written work is scored based on a district rubric, which is posted in the room and in HW folders.
Also, please be sure to check the SC State Department of Education's websites to look at 3rd grade standards. Standards are the main points that teachers cover in class. You can use the standards as ideas for family trips or local activities. For example, we study SC Indian tribes and you could visit Cherokee, NC. We also study the American Revolution, the Civil War, and state government. Take time to visit the SC State Parks website to see some of these historic places, or even tour downtown Greenville! Your student will have a great background to build on.
