The ARMES Percussion program provides young musicians with a unique opportunity to develop technical mastery, rhythmic precision, and musical versatility. Designed to balance individual skill-building with ensemble performance, the program encourages students to grow as confident soloists and collaborative performers. Classes are led by a professional percussionist who performs in professional orchestras, bringing his expertise and real-world experience directly to students.
During the first semester, students focus on building strong technical foundations on a variety of percussion instruments, including snare drum, mallets, timpani, and auxiliary percussion. Emphasis is placed on rudiments, technique, timing, and sight-reading, helping students develop accuracy, control, and consistency across multiple instruments. This technical preparation ensures students develop strong independent musicianship skills needed for upcoming honor band auditions.
In the second semester, students explore chamber percussion and ensemble playing, applying their skills in both small groups. This experience strengthens listening skills, timing, and collaboration, highlighting the unique role percussion plays in ensemble music.
Classes meet once per week for 2 ½ hours, providing time for focused instruction, ensemble rehearsal, and individualized guidance tailored to each student’s strengths and growth areas.
By the end of the program, students have refined their technique, improved rhythmic accuracy, and gained confidence performing in both solo and group settings. For parents, the ARMES Percussion program lays a solid foundation for success in school bands, orchestras, and other musical opportunities, equipping students with the skills and confidence to excel as versatile, capable musicians.
