The ARMES Elementary Music Program provides students with a comprehensive, sequential music education that develops confident and creative musicians. Through singing, listening, movement, composition, and performance on a variety of instruments, students build a strong foundation in music.
Instruction emphasizes the development of melodic and rhythmic literacy through reading, writing, and performing music. Students progressively learn to read standard notation, perform with increasing independence, develop music theory skills, and strengthen their understanding of music elements. Listening skills, reading skills, and composition are integrated into every stage of learning.
The curriculum is intentionally sequenced so that each year students build upon previously mastered skills, progressing from foundational concepts to advanced sight reading, music literacy, and performance. Performances each semester provide opportunities for students to demonstrate their growth while developing confidence and ensemble skills. By the completion of the elementary music program, students possess the musical knowledge and transferable skills for continued success in middle school music and lifelong musical engagement.
