Equations (slope-intercept form ... y = mx + b
Equations (one-variable)
Exponents (positive and negative)
Finance and Credit (savings accounts and loans)
Functions (graphs, tables, ordered pairs, and mappings)
Interest (simple and compound)
Linear Equations and Inequalities
Mean Absolute Deviation (MAD)
Percent (%)
Proportions (including congruence, similarity, and non-proportional)
Pythagorean Theorem and Converse of the Pythagorean Theorem (a2 + b2 = c2)
Real Numbers (rational and irrational)
Scatter Plots, Trend Lines, and Lines of Best Fit
Scientific Notation (positive and negative powers of 10)
Slope and Rate (including rate of change, constant rate of change, and scale factor)
Slope and y-Intercept
Surface Area and Lateral Area of Prisms (including perimeter)
Transformations (transition, reflection, rotation, and dilation)
Volume of Prisms (cylinders, cones, and spheres)
These topics are stated and defined in the GISD's 2025-2026 Curriculum Pacing Guide and are adopted and approved by the GISD School Board.
These topics are aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), adopted and approved by the State Board of Education and correspond to the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR) Math Test (administered in late April 2024) and incorporate all of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for eighth grade mathematics.
