A. EXPECTATIONS
Treat everyone with respect
Demonstrate a positive attitude and a great sense of humor.
Be responsible for your own self.
Ask questions.
Request assistance and help when it is needed.
Complete all assignments on time
Complete and submit all make-up work, quizzes, and tests in a timely manner.
B. PROCEDURES
Be in your assigned seat when the tardy bell rings.
Bring needed materials (see course materials page within this website),
Begin warm-up assignment as directed by the teacher.
Always do your assignment in pencil.
Turn in assignments when they are due.
Contact the teacher for make-up work at the end of the class period on the first day back from an absence (see assignments page within this website).
Include your name (first and last), date, and class period on all daily assignments, homework, quizzes, tests, and exams.
C. RULES
Sit in your assigned sit upon entering the classroom.
After entering the classroom, no one is permitted to leave the classroom without the teacher's permission.
Stay in your assigned classroom seat unless you have permission to move to another seat.
Offensive language and/or gestures is not permitted ... not ever ... not ever ... not ever.
Always keep your hands and feet to yourself. DO NOT TOUCH OTHER STUDENTS.
Raise your hand and wait for permission to speak. Do not interrupt others who have been called on and/or are speaking. Do not interrupt by repeatedly shouting out answers or guesses to answers.
Bring all needed materials to class. (see classroom materials and supplies page within this website)
Do not write on desks.
Do not chew gum in class.
Do not eat food in class without permission. This includes all prepared foods, most snack foods, ice cream, snow-cones, etc.). Exceptions are considered for those students who have an approved accommodation.
Do not bring beverages into the classroom without permission. Personal transparent bottles of water, gater-aid, and power-aid are permitted, but open containers and fountain drinks are not permitted.
Personal grooming during class is not permitted. Some examples include combing hair, applying make-up, or applying perfume/cologne.
Restroom Rule: The 10/10 rule will be observed. This means that no one will be provided permission to leave the classroom during the first ten minutes and the last ten minutes of the class period. When excused from the classroom for an emergency visit to the restroom, students are expected to return within three minutes. Students who repeatedly ask everyday may be periodically denied permission unless it is deemed an emergency. Structured routines, as directed by the principal, may be necessary as circumstances dictate.
Use of cell phones or other electronic devices in class are not permitted (re: Texas HB 6). Structured allowances, as allowed by the teacher and provided for by GISD policies, may vary due to personal circumstances.
Electronic messaging of any type (text messaging, facebook, instagram, etc.) is not permitted at any time (re: Texas HB 6). Exceptions and permissions will provided to students who need to respond to a parent or guardian.
Taking pictures of others without the appropriate permissions is not permitted and may be considered illegal depending on the circumstances.
Do not touch any of the teacher's technology devices in the classroom ... not ever ... not ever ... not ever.
There is to be no throwing of any objects in the classroom ... not ever ... no exceptions ... zero tolerance.
Students are not dismissed from the classroom until they are verbally dismissed by the teacher.
The teacher's desk, work table, and storage areas are off limits to students.
Student's may not take it upon themselves to re-assign themselves to another seat in the classroom. Please discuss any problems privately with the teacher for the consideration and justification of a change if there is a problem.
Students must adhere to the "Student Code of Conduct" at all times.
Students must adhere to the "Student Dress Code" at all times.
The observance of a Pledge of Allegiance to the United States flag and to the Texas flag, followed by a "moment of silence", is a requirement outlined in the Texas Education Code. No talking must be observed at this time.
Students must remain silent during all announcements.
D. CLASS STRUCTURE - The class period will be divided into four parts;
Bell Ringer (also known as a warm-up assignment).
Main Lesson (discussion and topical videos provided by the teacher and completion of all notes provided by the teacher).
Homework (examples of how to complete the first few problems will be provided by the teacher).
Math Activity (as time permits).
E. GUIDANCE
HOMEWORK: will be provided periodically and will typically include five or less problems. Homework assignments are typically due the day following the day of the assignment.
MAKE-UP WORK: must be submitted in a satisfactory manner and within the time frame specified by the teacher ... within three days upon return to class from an absence. There will be a deduction of 10 points imposed for exceeding the three days. A zero will be entered into the grade book after three days and will remain there until the missing assignment is submitted. Students will be provided with "end-of-the-grading-period" deadlines for the submission of make-up work, after which, the assignment cannot be made-up. The deadlines for the 2023-2024 school year (as of 08/14/23) are:
NOTE: Make-up work cannot be accepted after the following deadlines due to GISD closure of the teacher's grade book.
1st Nine Weeks Deadlines - request by 10/02/25 - submit by 10/09/25
2nd Nine Weeks Deadlines - request by 12/12/25 - submit by 12/18/25
3rd Nine Weeks Deadlines - request by 02/27/26 - submit by 03/06/26
4th Nine Weeks Deadlines - request by 05/12/26 - submit by 05/19/26
CONDUCT GRADES: are assigned along with the academic grades and will appear on the progress reports and grade reports. Conduct grades include E (Excellent), S (Satisfactory), N (Needs Improvement), and U (Unsatisfactory).
GRADE BOOK: grades may be checked by the parent anytime via Skyward, provided that the parent has a user id and password specific to their child. A user id and and password may be obtained from the school secretary.
TEXTBOOKS: in hardbound or softbound editions are not provided. However, each student may access an digital edition with a special userid and password provided by the teacher.
NOTEBOOK AND BINDER: are expected by each student. Periodically, students will be instructed to enter special topical notes pertaining to each new concept introducted throughout the school year. These notes may be used as a reference during teacher assessments (i.e. quiz).
COUNSELOR: is available by appointment only for schedule changes during the second week of school, at the end of each 9-weeks grading period, and for personal reasons. Mrs. Jimmerson or Mrs. Miller are the counselors.
EMERGENCY/SAFETY DRILLS, such as FIRE DRILLS, TORNADO DRILLS, LOCKOUT DRILLS, and LOCKDOWN DRILLS will be randomly scheduled by the principal and the GISD Chief of Police throughout the school year. All students are expected to demonstrate control of their behavior and follow any and all directions from their teacher during all safety drills.
REFERRALS: will be submitted to the principal for repetitive behavior disruptions in the classroom, for a demonstration of disrespect towards the teacher and others, or for repeated violations of expected behavior as outlined in the "Student Behavior Code."
F. STEPS FOR PROCESSING STUDENT MISCONDUCT
First Offense: Verbal warning.
Second Offense: Verbal warning and a call (or email) to the parent.
Third Offense: Verbal warning and another call (or email) to the parent.
Fourth Offense: Verbal warning, a call (or email) to the parent, and a written behavior referral requiring an intervention by the principal or the assistant principal.
Fifth Offense: Immediate removal from the classroom followed by a call (or email) to the parent, and a written behavior referral requiring an intervention by the principal or the assistant principal.
