GOALS FOR 11TH GRADE
Welcome to your junior year! In 11th grade, you’ll begin to think in more detail about how your reflective journey relates to college. As you do, you’ll begin to construct college lists and prepare for applications. We’re excited to work with you as you begin to think more seriously about college. Here’s what you can look forward to.
We start working with students individually in January. During the second semester, we’ll host a series of "Junior Seminars" to cover the college process top-to-bottom. You’ll develop a standardized testing plan based on the colleges and subject areas that you’re interested in on a timetable that makes the most sense for you. By summer, you’ll be ready to begin tackling your college applications!
We know there's a lot to balance during your junior year. We're sharing our junior year timeline in two ways. First, take a look at our brief "at-a-glance" timeline below. Then, feel free to browse our detailed, month-by-month timeline linked below as well.
AT-A-GLANCE TIMELINE
Semester One
September & October
Attend virtual visits from college representatives.
Consider taking the PSAT for National Merit consideration.
If applicable, register for AP exams held in May.
November & December
Consider registering for spring SAT/ACT testing dates.
Focus on doing well on your midterm exams!
Semester Two
January
Begin meeting with your counselor.
If applicable, this is not a bad time to start looking for available scholarships.
February, March & April
If possible, visit a few colleges during your mid-winter and spring breaks.
Discuss senior year course selection with your counselor and advisor.
Register for upcoming SAT or ACT test dates as applicable.
May & June
Take AP exams, if applicable.
Prepare initial college list in SCOIR.
Schedule a meeting with you, your parents, and your college counselor to go over summer plans.
Crush Greenhills exams!
Summer
Visit the colleges to which you are planning to apply, if possible.
Attend our essay and application workshops. Spend time on essay writing!
